Doing some research I found a hostel "Guzel Izmir Hotel" which seems to be pretty much in the center ... any other hostel or hotel tips for a medium budget ;-) ?

There are a lot of cheap hotels, but I recommend Ontur Hotel, with full breakfast & indoor pool, and very good price, it is centrally located.
