Hi! 1. Is there a museum discount card for various attractions in Istanbul? 2. Is there a transportation discount card? 3. I will be visiting in the last week of November and the first week of December. Do I need to make reservations at any of the popular museums or attractions. There will just be me. 4. Should I expect big wait lines for entrances to places such as the Topkapi Palace? Thanks everyone.
Hi ;-) You should buy Istanbulkart. Do you really want to visit so many museums that you need a discount card ? :-) Enjoy the city for itself ;-) No reservation for museums as far as I know. Max ;-)

Thanks for the info. At this point I don't know that I want to visit that many museums that I need a discount card. I'm still in the itinerary planning stage. But I never turn a good discount down. Istanbul looks terrific, so I am sure there is much I will want to see in any case.

For transportation, buy an Akbil, an electronic token that works on the various forms of public transportation in Istanbul. WIth regards to Istanbul museums, the best one is the Archaeological museum next to Topkapi palace.

There's the Museum Pass Istanbul, which gets you into the Chora Museum, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Archaeological Museum, Mosaic Musuem, and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, and gets a discount at another 20 or so places. It's 72TL, so if you're visiting all those places it's a good deal, and you can avoid the ticket lines. BUT it only lasts 72 hours, starting from the first use. It's a lot of attractions to see in a short time. Not sure where you'd be able to buy it when you'll be there, but in May the van was outside the main entrance to the Hagia Sophia. For transportation, the Istanbulkart isn't a discount card per se, but if you use it enough it ends up costing less than individual fares. You have to buy the card at a kiosk, and fill it at the automatic token places. No reservations needed. You'll be there off season, too, which should make it a nice time to be there (the crowds in May were insane). Long lines... From personal experience I'd say yes, some of the longest you'll ever see, but off season I'd guess it'll be better.

There is Museum Card for foreigners valid for 72 hours. You can find details about it in my Istanbul tips. For transportation you need an Istanbul Card. You put credit on it and use all transport options (bus, metro, tram, boat) with it. You can take a look at my Istanbul ili and Istanbul page for many useful tips, especially the restaurants :)
