It would help if you said what sort of tour you want? Do you want someone to arrange your flights and hotel? Do you only want a one or two day tour around the city? What are you interests? Are you travelling alone or with other people? Do you want a private tour? Where are you travelling from?

Package tour is getting less and less popular nowadays for Istanbul since there are a lot of information available--- starting with VT. If you start reading tips on several members page here on VT about Istanbul, you'll realize that you don't need package nor travel agencies especially that you're just interested in Istanbul. Like for instance, if you're planning to stay in Sultanahmet area, then you could just walk to most of the popular historical sights of the city such as the blue mosque, hagia sophia, basilica cistern, topkapi palace, grand bazaar, etc. But if you enjoy listening to someone telling you story about those sights, then you may need a guide or join a group tour. And there are a lot of trusted onses like http://www.backpackerstravel.net/ or http://www.tur-ista.com/ Then again, if you decide to go on your own, it's practical and many travelers have discovered this as convenient and easier done that read.

Agreed you don't really need an arranged tour to see the sights in Instanbul, but I did use two companies for walking tours while there. (My visitors didn't have time to research, and were only there a day or two.) Both of these companies have very good guides, and offer set tours or can arrange private tours. http://www.istanbulwalks.net/ urbanadventures.com/destinat... Walking alone is quite safe in the tourist areas.

I would also suggest getting your own flight ticket and arranging your own hotel in Istanbul. If you stay in Sultanahmet area, you can visit most of the attractions by walking. Just read and save useful tips from many VT member pages and you will be good to go. You can start by reading my Istanbul pages and saving some tips to bring with you during your visit to Istanbul. Just add the tips you like to trip planner and you can print out in pdf format. That's how I travel to new locations. Enjoy Istanbul :)

Hi ;-) Where are you now ? Why do you use a turkish keyboard ? Your "i" attests that you are already in Turkey, so for sure your concern is not safety, as for sure you already know that the country is very safe :-) Max ;-)
