I will be visiting Istanbul at the beginning of November. How do I find out about what performing arts events will take place then? What is the best way to purchase tickets and save money. I want to avoid any Ticketmaster or other third party fees, for example. Any sight on line you suggest for looking for events? Thank you very much.
Hello! After a quick research I found out these pages relevant to your question: mymerhaba.com/Art-and-Cultur... timeout.com/istanbul/feature... and worldtravelguide.net/istanbu... for the upcoming events in Istanbul, also this one of how to buy tickets for the cultural events you are interested in: istanbulhotelsarikonak.com/I... Have a nice time in Istanbul!

I used to live in Istanbul though that was a few years ago. At that time we used to buy tickets for concerts, operas and ballets at the Ataturk Cultural Centre. The performances were of a high standard and the tickets were very cheap(we got half price teacher tickets, but the full price was also cheap). We used to buy them in advance from the ticket office. Nowadays you can probably do it on line. Google Ataturk Cultural Centre and see what comes up under booking. The lovliest thing about going to a cultural event in Turkey was the huge enthusiasm and appreciation shown by the audience. They really threw themselves in to enjoying every show.

"I want to avoid any Ticketmaster or other third party fees" Biletix is actually a Ticketmaster company, which is as mentioned by Omer is the local's way of purchasing an event ticket. So the saying goes...when in Rome. It's convenient anyway, there's a biletix outlet in Beyoglu Halep Pasajı, along the most famous street of the city - Istiklal Cadessi - way between Huseyin Aga mosque and Galatasaray before Cicek Pasaji (flower passage). Will save you time in case you're staying in that area, and probably disappointment later. I remember paying I think5 for the service charge, it varies.
