I'm going to have an 8 hour layover at Ataturk Airport in September. Unfortunately, the layover is from 11 PM to 7 AM. Any suggestions? I do not want to just sit or try to sleep for 8 hours.
Wow....I had a similar situation in HK airport 2 yrs ago. I found a nice quiet area, pulled some sofa chairs together and made a little bed, got some water and my book and read. I also walked around when I landed for appr an hour to kill time. Before you know it, after dozing off a few times, it will be 4-5am.

One option is to rent a room at an airport hotel and get a good nights sleep. If you do not want to do that and you are there during the weekend then you could take a taxi to the Taksim area and hang out in one of the many cafes, bars, nightclubs. Taksim is one of the most lively nightspots in the world during the weekend and it´s really rocking. It can even be ok during the week, but i am not totally sure about that.

As ur layover is concerning the after dark hours, u have limited options to consider ... As the former poster has mentioned, "Taksim Square" is a good option and also the "Istiklal Street" next to it, which is a loooooooong pedestrian street w lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, bars etc, which gives u opportunity to enjoy on a 24/7 basis ... See the following link for details : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0stikl... My alternative option for u is the "Yesilkoy" area, which is just about 15 mins taxi drive away from Ataturk Airport, where on the shore many cafes, restaurants available staying open mostly till late ... The cab from Airport to Yesilkoy will cost u just about 15.- TL ( about 8.- USD). And in September the weather in Istanbul will be still ok for u to sit outside and enjoy the surrounding even at night .... Enjoy ur time in IST ... :)
