I will be going to Turkey tomorrow and do not have Turkish Lira. Can any VT member advise me whether the exchange office at Istanbul (Atartuk) airport offers a good or reasonable rate? I will then fly from Istanbul to Neveshir. Would the rate be better if I exchange it at Neveshir airport? Or should I exchange the minimum at airport and exchange the rest when I get to downtown of the cities? Thanks a lot in advance.
The Exchange Booths at the Airport (s) (Bank's) will offer you official rate which will be less then the open market rate in the city and it will be same at both airports but they will charge commission (some 2 to 3.5 percent)it will be better if you can draw some money from ATM using Visa Debit or Credit Card and then exchange your currency when you get to the City.

there are atm machines right after clearing immigration-custons. we found the atm machines both in the airports and in towns and cities to offer the best rates. nevsihir is a small airport. enjoy cappadocia - one of my favorite trips ever. in most of the tourist towns like goreme and urgup, atms are also readily available.

I agree with lew, the rates from the ATM's are going to be a little better. Your CC company will still make the spread, but without the additional spread. Fortunately, the Turkish Lira is still relatively weak and you can get some great deals. Karl

as a local; below u can follow bank rates (airport banks at Ataturk Airport open 24 hours) http://www.isbank.com.tr/English/ paragaranti.com/pages/doviz.... here is free market prices; http://www.doviz.com/ My advice , change some amount at the arrivals (100 usd?) and and when u are in the city, u ll see so many exchange offices in Sultanahmet, Eminonu, Sirkeci and Grand Bazaar areas. U just need to read their screen which can be seen from outside. I actually do not see so much differences (% 1-3 percent maybe) . have nice time
