Petra and Wadi Rum?

by officielle01 Online Now Dec 14, 2009 at 4:38 PM

Hello, I will stay in Jerusalem and take time to go to Petra but keep my hotel in Jerusalem. So, I have very little time to go visit Petra. If I want to include Wadi Rum, it will take another day. Is Wadi Rum really worth visiting? Thank you.

Why are you keeping your hotel in Jerusalem? If it is to have a place to store your luggage, may I suggest that you check out, leave the bulk of your luggage in the hotel's luggage room and then check back in. Visiting Petra means you will be a minimum of one night and more likely two out of Jerusalem.

I really liked Wadi Rum. I have been to a few deserts but there was something about my time here that I will never forget. Anyway if you only have a day then you'd need to watch your time, when I went I missed my bus out of there so had to sleep on the rooftop of some restaurant....which wasn't so bad as I got to star gaze all night. Best to spend the extra time in Petra if you are only in the area for a few days (3).

Is this an organized tour? Are you flying down? If neither of the above, do you really want to try and see one of the greatest sites in the world in just an hour? That is about how much time you will have if you are coming from Jerusalem and returning there the same day... In that amount of time, just Petra alone will be a squeeze, never mind Wadi Rum as well. If you spend the night there, 1 1/2 days for Petra and 1/2 day for Wadi Rum would be reasonable imo.
