What's the Best Island to stay

Canary Islands May 14, 2013 at 1:05 AM

My wife and I are considering spending 7 days in the Canary Islands in late June. We were considering Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. We prefer to keep away from touristy areas & as we are retired we are not looking for extravagant nightlife and discos. We prefer quieter pubs and good restaurants. Is Gran Canaria a good choice?

      Current fuel prices.

by Tricky_Dicky69 Online Now Jan 21, 2012 at 6:11 AM

Hi, can anyone confirm the current price per litre for diesel and petrol. I'm looking into renting a car for our trip in March and I'm in the process of getting confirmation of how much I'll be charged for a full tank of fuel. ( I'm told that you have to take the car back empty. ) I'm trying to avoid getting ripped off by the hire company ( Goldcar ) Any help would be much appreciated.

      Opinions on Caleta del Fuste.

by Tricky_Dicky69 Online Now Mar 22, 2011 at 3:26 AM

Hi All, We have just booked an apartment for 10 days in March next year in Caleta del Fuste but have heard some negative comments about the resort. We've been told that it's very quiet as there are lots of shops and restaurants either closed or up for sale. We were also told that it was difficult to hire a car in the resort, which seems a bit strange. I find the above hard to believe so would be grateful if anyone could share their own experiences of the resort. Thanks Tricky Dicky

Hi guys, hope someone will be able provide me with some information about the chances of catching some of the world cup games during my stay. I am travelling with my finace, and our 2 babies daughters in June, is it likely that our hotel would screen any of the world cup games?, or would there be any nearby places that would show the matches, and be suitable for me to take my baby daughters along? Thanks Phil

Corralejo Villas With Pools - Cosmos/Tesco

by cemeterybird Online Now Sep 14, 2008 at 11:26 AM

Hi - We have saved our Tesco Clubcard Vouchers for a one week holiday in April 2009 and have whittled our preferences down to the Cosmos Villas with Pools brochure - Corralejo resort of choice!! The available villas to choose from are: Villas Tania 1&2, Villa Chemas, Villa Brisas del Mar, Villa Margaritas and Villa Michelle 2. There probably isn't a lot to choose between them all but was wondering if anyone out there has any experience of them, as it seems quite difficult to find any reviews (maybe because they are all quite new?) They all seem to be between 1 and 2 kilometres from the resort so I am assuming that they are quite rural and maybe still in an area of 'work in progress'? Any comments gratefully received.

      sand dunes? Corralejo vs Jandia

      Hotel y otros

Hola. Muchas gracias!

    • Suggestions for a good hotel for lazy parents & teens who want to surf/boogie board, please!

by ChrissieLinnit Online Now Jan 18, 2008 at 1:39 PM

It's a nightmare trying to meet everyone's expectations when all I want from Fuerteventura is to sit and relax with a few good books under a parasol by the pool. Spouse wants to explore and keep one eye on any good European football matches on any nearby TV and eat good food. Eldest 20something son wants to boogie board, swim, volleyball etc and watch the girls go by... Younger sweet-sixteen, teen son wants to boogie board, try to surf, snorkel, swim, volleyball, watch footie with dad and watch older brother watching the girls go by so he can laugh! I'm looking for a good B&B or half-board hotel with nice pools, nice food, TV that shows footie, and that is close enough to a beach with some learner size waves.... Oh... and a parasol for me, please!

    • Help! New to Canaries

by Laurajane031283 Online Now Jan 9, 2008 at 5:34 AM

Hi, me and my bf are looking to book a last minute winter break. We want sun and so have decided on the canaries. We have never had a winter hol before and in the summer tend to go to Greece and last year Sardinia. Therefore I am clueless about where to go! We have narrowed it down to Fuetuventura as this goes on the right day and sounds more our cup of tea than the more popular resorts. Now we are just stuck on the resort. We like authentic places, not too many English bars, high rise accomm etc, nice beach, nice bars and restaurants and nice scenery. We In the summer (high season in most places) I would always pick the quieter resorts and in low season the middle of the road ones. But I am not sure when high season is in the canaries or how busy it will be? We have looked at Correjelo but I'm not sure if it will be too commercial. I like the sound of the resorts in the south more but they all sound too German. Will we be the only English there? Costa Caleta sounds okay but don't like idea of it all being manmade. I'm going round in circles and need to book this week. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

      Restaurants in Corralejo

by Zandra Online Now Sep 16, 2007 at 3:16 AM

Hi, I've gone through the restaurant tips and forum entries, but as most of them were quite old and the eating out scene tends to change rapidly in tourist resorts, I was wondering if anyone who recently has been to Corralejo could recommend any good restaurants? I'm up for all kinds of food, but in particular I'm looking for a nice sea-food restaurant where we could take our mum for her 60th birthday. Many thanks in advance!

    • Where to stay?

by bue1717 Online Now Sep 6, 2007 at 8:29 PM

My wife and I are considering a week's holiday in Fuerteventura next March but unsure where. We are looking for somewhere with a bit of night life but not too busy. More chilled out G&Ts by the harbour than Vodka & Red Bull with "Drum & Bass!" Lots of good food & not too many "Full English Breakfast" Cafes & "Red Lion" pubs full of package tourists. A Naturist beach within walking distance that’s not too windy, would be nice as we don't like being by the pool everyday. Also Naturist beaches within a short drive as we will hire a car too. Sounds like a tall order! Any help would be appreciated! Many Thanks. Bue
