Hi there, I'm planning a russia trip next year and am wondering if it is easy to organize a side trip to Irkutsk and Lake Baikal when I arrive in St. Petersburg at a student travel agency? Is it easy to buy a train ticket for that segment when I arrive in Russia, or is it always sold out way in advance in the summer? Is it easy to organize excursions to Lake Baikal when I get there? and is it easy for the travel agent in St. P to find accomodation for me in Irkust? Thanks for answering my loaded questions.
It is easy to buy train ticket if you have a foregn passport. But the train ride is about 4 days and there is NOTHING interesting in Irkutsk. To see Baikal is nice if you are in the area but it is not worth a long trip from SP. There are plenty of better sights much closer to SP. How long do you plan to be in Russia?
