US citizen to be aupair in Ireland

by Callistoe Online Now Dec 20, 2005 at 11:42 AM

I have been invited to live with a family in Ireland as thier aupair, and I am having a horrible time getting any info about getting a visa. I have contacted the Irish Consolate in Ireland and the Irish Embassy in San Fransisco looking for info and I keep getting referred to websites that have no info on what category an aupair falls into...does anyone know anything on the subject? Are there any other US citizens who have tried to get a visa for Ireland? Thanks!

Since au pair is not one of the skills shortages, I expect your potential employer arranges a work permit for you, no? Are you not going through an agency? This page might help: entemp.ie/labour/workpermits...

I just got more helpful information from all of you than I did from talking to Consolate themselves! Thank you for your help, I'm going to look into this, if you think of anything else, please post! Thanks Again, ~Callistoe
