I'm visiting Kurdistan for several days on business. Is it (or the rest of Iraq) considered a "war zone" and therefore possibly considered exempt from coverage under my life or health insurance policies?
Hi...you are going to want to discuss this directly with your insurance company as I'm sure that every company has its own definition.

I agree with Giampiero above. Normally most insurance companies will not cover any territory that their (your) government has advised against travel to, so it doesn't need to be specifically a 'war zone'. Two friends of mine have just travelled through there between Iran and Turkey and it certainly wasn't considered dangerous or a war zone to them, but that's not how insurance companies work of course!

Generally speaking, insurance companies do not differentiate between regions of a conflict zone like Iraq. I know that we need special insurance to work here. That said, in terms of travel, Iraqi Kurdistan is safer than pretty much any European country.

My husband has just spent several days in Erbil, covered by his company's insurance for employees. Check what cover your company provides, plus any private cover you may have.
