Visa into Iran from Turkey for American citizen

by Lushka16 Online Now Nov 14, 2006 at 10:26 AM

Hello! My friends and I are intending on taking part in the London to Mongolia rally. The rally is a charity event that has participants trek nearly 8000 miles in small (under 1000cc) cars. Travelers can take any route they'd like, and we'd like to take the southern route through Turkey, Iran and onto Turkmenistan. I have heard about the amazing hospitality of the Iranian people, and look forward to visiting the beautiful country. We are all American citizens, and are somewhat familiar with the visa process - basically we apply very early with a company such as http://www.irantravelingcenter.com/, who will help us acquire our visa. I'm assuming that once we have our visa, we just need to show it at the border. Is it really that simple? I don't mind jumping through hoops and dealing with red tape, because we have until July to acquire the visa. Also, what border crossings are recommended? I assume we should stay closer to Armenia that Iraq. Any other tips/tricks/info I should know? Thanks, I can't wait to be there!

i'm iranian and it took 2 months for my american husband to get his visa and they also need to finger print him at the airport, i hope it will be that easy for you guys :) but i personally think that the land border is going to be abit more difficult, avoid the border with Pakistan/Afghanistan and (of course!!) Iraq the rest are safe :)also did you do some research about Iran's roads? i think driving there is a bit tricky, take good care :D Have fun A.

Azadeh is right, though the Turkmen border may also be difficult to cross if you are not Iranian. I recommend that you check these facts with the Iranian embassy and keep checking closer to travel, as the situation at borders is a bit volatile here. The only really stable borders that foreigners can cross without hassle are with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Cheers, Barone
