How is this part of the Peruvian Amazon vs Puerto Maldonado? Some sources state for Iquitos, you need anti Malarial or Yellow Fever prevention. Though that may be outdated data. I am investigating this for 2014.
The anti malaria pills are a good idea because there are lots of biting bugs in the Amazon. Yellow fever is not required and I don't have it and have been all over the area several times. The most important thing to do is get plenty of bug repellant and apply liberally, every two hours when out side in the jungle. An wear light weight pants that you can tie the legs closed or tuck in your boots.
Have fun, the Amazon is one of the best places I have been.
