Hi, My wife and I are planning our Indonesia vacation and we are wondering one thing: Is it possible to travel from Yogyakarta to Ketapang in one day by train? Thanks for your help! Lex
Hi Lex, If you mean in a day by daylight: no; if you mean within 24 hours: yes. Part of the trip would be at night. According to the railway company website: http://kereta-api.co.id/, there is no direct train to Banyuwangibaru (the station closest to Ketapanag, about 10 km). You have to go from Yogya to Surabaya and there change trains. For Surabaya to Banyuwangibaru there are only two options: Mutiara Timur Pagi, DEP 9am, ARR 4pm Mutiara Timur Malam, DEP 9:30pm, ARR 4:25am To catch the day train from Surabaya, you can leave Yogya with: Bima, DEP 1am, ARR 5:44am Mutiara Selatan, DEP 1:30am, ARR 6:08am Turangga, DEP 2:17am, ARR 6:25am So you have a 2 to 3 hours wait in Surabaya (if the trains run on time!) To catch the night train from Surabaya, your best option is: Argo Wilis, DEP 2pm, ARR 6:25pm Theo

Hi, Dieng Plateau is not in Yogyakarta, it is a 2 to 3 hours' drive from Yogya. The most practical way to go there from Yogya is hiring a car with driver. Dieng deserves more than one day to explore, but there is only very basic accommodation. Good hotels are available in Wonosobo, half an hour from Dieng. If you opt for a day trip, make it a long day, i.e. leave early. You can easily get a car with driver fro Dieng at any travel agent in Yogya. Theo
