Hello ! As i'm planning my trip to north india (four weeks in march), i wonder if it's really possible to do that during this period of time. It would be Delhi, Chandigarh, Varanasi, Kolkata, Darjeeling and Agra. Each time with one or two halfday trip in a place nearby.... As everybody is saying that it takes hours to buy a train ticket and things like that, i'm wondering if i'm not planning a too long trip for 28 days... By the way, if anybody has good hotel adresses in these town, they are very welcome ! Thank you very much !
Yes, Nan, 28 days is plenty of time for these 6 destinations. (But why Chandigarh, unless you've a strong interest in Le Corbusier?) If I were you I'd add other places, like Jaipur and Jodhpur or Udaipur or Ajmer, and (near Varanasi) Khajuraho. If you give me an indication of your budget, I may be able to recommend hotels.

ok, thank you, it's reassuring ! I'll see if i add other cities... I like to spend time somewhere... And Chandigarh seems strange (and i'd be able to visit the sikh region around..) For the hotels, i'm looking for cheap things (the one i book in Delhi costs something like 230 rps..).. Thank you again ! Nan

I think you are fine.... But Darjeeling is quite out of the way. So is Chandigarh. Also keep in mind that train delays are going to happen. Also if you want to spend alot of time in a place then its going to be hard to pick up time. It isn't easy to travel around India with such a strict Schedule. Getting out of major tourist places by train can be hard. Remember Indians also travel to these places. Especially Varanasi. Otherwise I think you'll do Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and Kolkata easily. (Maybe Darjeeling). I'd forget Chandigarh. You could look at Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi and Kolkata. Anyway good luck. India rocks. Aaron virtualtourist.com/m/16628/5...

ITs always good to buy the ticket well in advance. Dont think of buying it at the counter. You can book online at http://www.indianrail.gov.in.Buy 2nd A/C or 3rd A/c. You can cover a lot in 28 days. In Delhi lot of agents offer Golden Triangle tours ( Delhi-Jaipur-Agra) From Agra you can continue to varanasi. And from there to Kolkota.
