we have Tirchendur murgan temple and Vana tirupathi near to tuticorin..and apart from this you can visit a chruch in Manapad which is now kinda tourist places because of few tamil movies are shot here..recent one is mani rathnam's "kadal'
All these places you will be able to visit in a day..I did it. if you start little early..
Tuticorin has got wide range of lodges available..depending upon budget..I never stayed in any lodge..but I prefer to stay at Tirchendur if I dont have any job in tuticorin..As tuticorin dont have anything to offer..
but If you want to stay in tuticorin then in that case I suggest you "Jony hotel" or "sugam hotel" both of them got restaurants and with in city..

Even though I live in Tuticorin I have never stayed in Tirchendur..but from my last trip I remember few hotels are available close to temple premises..I can say from their exterior they all looked good...
