Just use your common sense and I don't think you will have any problem. Iligan is a City so just as in any other city you want to avoid flashing around a wallet full of cash, expensive jewelry, etc. I have visited Iligan several times now without difficulty. Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology is one of the Philippines top universities as rated by the Comission of Higher Education ( CHED ) and other sources. There are a multitude of schools, and colleges in Iligan City. Iligan Medical Center College is another good one and one of their recent students got the top score in the country on the Nursing License Examination, competing with over 90,000 other applicants. I am quite familiar with MSU-IIT and have met with the University Chancellor, other faculty, staff and students. I continue to be quite impressed. I was there in person about 10 months ago. I keep in touch with various individuals, websites and other sources of information on Iligan almost every day. There have been times in the past where I have been made aware of things happening in Iligan and know about them before many of the people in Iligan do. Recently a group of individuals in Iligan started a page on Facebook that you might find of interest. If you are on Facebook or even if you are not a subscriber I think you can still view it, " Explore Iligan 9200 " on facebook. Another useful and regularly updated forum is on www.skyscrapercity.com find Philippines, then Mindanao, and then look for the Iligan thread. I think you will find these useful and helpful. The Iligan Dept of Tourism has initiated a " Bring Home A Friend " promotion to promote tourism in Iligan.
