Hello, I would love to go to Iceland to see the sights and would welcolme any information people could advise me on. I would like to see the lagoons, whale watching and other fantastic nature sights. Im thinking about going in July/August. I would love to see the Northern Lights but know to see them you need to go in the winter really. What i want to know is 1.whats the best area to stay in so i can do whale watching, see the lagoons etc with ease. 2.Where can i book an iceland holiday on the internet as im struggling to find one?
I assume by the "lagoons" you are referring to the outdoor thermal baths, like the Blue Lagoon. If so, it and the thermal baths near Myvatn are the two places you can do this. The Blue Lagoon is not far from Keflavik airport, and most people stop by there on the way to or from the airport. The ones at Myvatn are a bit harder to reach, as these are pretty well at the opposite end of the country. The other "lagoon" could be Jokulsarlon, the iceberg lake in the south-eastern part of the island. Whale watching; not something that we did while we were there, but there was some of that activity out of Husavik in the north. I suspect you can get them out of Reykjavik as well. Lots and lots of tour companies in Iceland. It really depends on whether you are looking for a tour or doing a self-drive type trip. We used the following on our two trips to Iceland: http://iceland.nordicvisitor.com/ http://www.farmholidays.is/ Our first trip was in August for about a week and we explored the southern part of the country. Our second trip was for 2 weeks and we rented a 4x4 and got into the interior highlands.

Have a look at my Iceland pages and Reykjavík pages, you can go whale watching from the old Reykjavík harbour. I have hundreds of tips, both on the lagoons, on whale watching and other fantastic nature sights. The Northern lights cannot be seen during the summer time.

We visited this wondeful country for 2 weeks in april. We stayed this entire time in Hafnarfjordur, which is about 7 km from Reykjavik. From there we did daytrips up north as far as Snaefelsnes and down south as far as Vik and further almost everything inbetween. We did a whale watching tour from Reykjavik. Booked with Elding, which is (I think) the biggest company to do these tours. Service and explanation were great. Highly recommended! We booked our trip completely online: planetickets directly at Icelandair.com and the hotel at hotels.com. Been at "hotel Hafnarfjordur", was great ( see my tip : Hotel Hafnarfjörður: "Great hotel in Hafnarfjörður" - Hafnarfjörður Hotel Tip by jojes ) As Regina mentioned above: she has very extensive pages with tips on all kinds of things to do. I found her gips very useful. I made several "personal travel guides" consisting of her tips and gook them as PDF-documents on my iPhone. So I was travelling Iceland with "regina's travel guides" in my pocket. The building of my own pages is still a work in progress though ...
