My husband & I are planning a trip to Iceland this summer. We have found a website that compares car rental rates in Iceland & Atak car rentals seems to be a really good deal Has anyone had any experience with Atak? If not Atak what car rental company would you recommend?
Just to add a precaution. If you are going to stay in Reykjavik, and limit yourself to the Ring Road when going out of town, a regular car is fine. However, and this is important, any other road, know as F-Roads, require that you have a 4x4. Do not even think about going on to those roads in a non 4x4, as the rental agencies will know about it and charge you exorbitant amounts for any damage or perceived damage. It will be difficult to curb the desire to get off the main roads, as all the good stuff will require some adventurism, so just make sure when you rent the car, that you go over the contract in detail with the agency, so you fully understand the dos' and don'ts. Have fun in my country. Need more info, just let me know.....d:o)

We used Atak on our first trip to Iceland, and same as you, the price was good. Everything was quite uneventful, which is what you want with a rental car... I seem to remember seeing an Atak baseball cap in a bin of hats in our front hall closet a few weeks ago...

Clearly, since Iceland is home I rarely need to rent a car when I return, so have little expreience in which one is better than the next. However, if Grumpy was satisfied with Atak, I am certain that you will be satisfied as well. (I would still get a 4x4.....d:o)

I used to do a lot of buisness with Atak and it all was good. I can get you 10 % discount here: http://www.cheapjeep.is/ Bragi

wow, I'm been researching Icelandic car rental too and have found that Atak is expensive compared to SADcar and Bluecar (still checking around and am adding Viking to the mix of inexpensiver car rentals--if you can call it "inexpensive" lol). I've checked into review sites, recommendations, etc. and those 3 are on my top list. Would be interested in knowing you final decision and research as I need to book within the next 2 weeks too.

Hi I have been looking for a cheap car for my summer holiday to Iceland too. I used the site netflights.com and they offered me an earlybird deal for a compact 5 door at only £7 per day, honestly, I couldn't believe it. It was through Alamo. The deal only seems to come up if you choose a 2 week hire in the second half of June. I don't know if that would be any use to you but it's certainly worth a try as it's a huge saving. Hope this helps ! :)

Sounds good, unless you want to go off the main road. Then you are in trouble. Any F-Roads are off limits to a non4X4 car.
