My wife and I are travelling to Hvar from Split in September this year and wonder if it is possible to hire a car in Stari Grad or should we hire it in Split? We are staying in Vrboska and would like the freedom of having our own transport. Thanks.
As it's September you shouldn't have a problem getting a car of some sort in either Stari Grad or Hvar Town from a local car hire outfit - I won't guarantee what you'll get - and, yes, you will definitely need a car if you're staying in Vrboska. Booking a car may be a different proposition - the companies you can use for on-line booking will all charge you a premium for delivering a car to Hvar. You should check the cost of that against the cost of taking the car on the ferry. Vrboska's lovely, we stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it - I'm envious!
