I have lived here for many years and have a villa and a flat here. I lve here about 7 months of the year. I am aged 70 and in reasonable health, but with some pre existing conditions (high blood pressure for which I am on medication and some other (small) things . I am British and do not have medical insurance because the cost would be prohibitive and the insurance company would never pay up anyway. I have had to seek medical help on a couple of occasions. Once when i cut my leg and the other time for a small infection (from sea water) in my ear
I went to El Gouna Hospital and initially they wanted to charge me 50 Euros for a consultation only. When I showed my villa contract to them , the cost was promptly reduced to 60LE
Can anyone advise me authoritatively about sat (God forbid), if i had a heart attack or suffered a broken leg and had to be carted off to hospital. Are the fees they charge discretionary? Would I have to sign something or produce my bank card for a swingeing payment to be made before I would be stabilised ?
Is there an insurance scheme in this country which is fairly honest, reliable and not cost prohibitive or can one pay into a hospital scheme where accidents and emergencies are covered?

Staying in the dessert over night

by Bernfried Online Now Nov 29, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Hallo, I will be in two week for 7 days in Hurghada. I am planning a bike trip from Hurghada along the coast to the south. South of Safaga I will turn west into the dessert. I am like to know if I can travel as a biker along the coast of the red sea or do I have to expect road barrier, which force me to join a convoy or prevent me from continuation of my journey. Does anyone has experience with staying over night in the dessert concerning wild living dogs or other animals? best regards from Erlangen/Germany Bernie

    • Hurghada vs Sharm

by charlie29 Online Now Sep 2, 2012 at 11:57 AM

Hi everyone, My partner and I are considering going to Egypt for Christmas this year and torn between hurghada and sharm. We've only been to egypt once (which was sharm last September) and very much enjoyed the shopping (fake bags, watches etc) and the nightlife. We were wondering how similar the two places are, if anyone can offer any advice - this would be greatly appreciated. Ps we are a couple in our mid 20's Thanks

Taba to Hurghada in one day?

by KShezz Online Now Jul 10, 2011 at 1:43 AM

Have just found out that egypt divers plan a mass dive ( world record attempt) and clean up on the 26th july in Hurghada...we had planned to leave Taba on the 25th anyway...if we dont take our flight home and try to get to Hurghada ourselves in time for the next day what is the best plan?...as far as my research takes me we could go from Taba to Sharm on the bus but I cant pin down the times its eaither 7 or 9am..and where does the bus leave from exactly? ...and then take the Sharm to Hurghada ferry...BUT on some websites it says that this ferry has been suspended?..does anyone know if this is true and if so can you pay a local boat to take you across instead? Any advice on how best to get from Taba to Hurghada in one day is welcome...K

      Best Currency to take

by shazziebear Online Now Jun 11, 2011 at 9:39 AM

Hi there, we (2xadults / 3x18 year olds) are visiting Egypt for the first time and staying in Sahl Haseesh for 2 weeks in July and wondered what is the best thing to do about currency? I have read loads of forums and everyone advises different things. So, can you please let me know if it is best to take LE, or best to take GBP and exchange them over in Egypt? Rate here is approx LE8 for each £1. Any idea of rates in Egypt, particularly in hotels?? Also, is it best to book trips before travel, or pay in LE when there? Any advice much appreciated. Many thanks

    • Hurghada to Cairo by bus?

by xsweety Online Now Oct 15, 2010 at 12:29 AM

I've been told super jet is the best bus to take on this route. But some websites show the schedule as only 3 times a day? 1. Does this take 7 hours? I heard traffic had make the journey even more extended? please advise if this is correct. 2.how are the roads? I mean the view.. 3.what is a good time of the day to travel.to reach Cairo and be able to do something. dont want to spend full day just travelling. 4.where is the super jet bus station in hurghada? i mean at ourskirts or near city center? I'm staying at Triton Beach. or if its really bad, then maybe i should shell out and go by air to cairo? im sure airports at both location are far off and total travel time my chk out and check in at cairo would be 4 hours?

Transport from Hurghada to Sharm el Sheikh

by TravellerMel Online Now Sep 14, 2010 at 10:39 AM

I will have 3 days in Hurghada at the end of my tour in May 2011. I am curious about transport to Sharm el Sheikh for a day trip (honestly, to hit the third Egyptian Hard Rock Cafe...) It doesn't look that far away, but it is on the other side of the Gulf. Can anyone provide information on ferries? (I assume there must be one) I Googled it, but could find no specific information... Thank you in advance for your insight - my trip is still 8 months away, but I am super-excited!!
