      Clothing manufacturers

      Guangzhou Jul 27, 2015 at 6:08 AM

Hi everyone, will be staying in Guangzhou for ten days in August for manufacturing purposes. Can anyone suggest a Caucasian travel guide as I have trouble working with guides that have turned out to be "insiders" working closely with the manufacturers. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

      Walking around West Lake

      Hangzhou Jul 27, 2015 at 1:49 PM

      Hi,

I do not know how to ride a bike so I plan to walk around West Lake. I would be there in early January. I know the lake is large and has a lot of small paths that deviate from the general trail around the lake. How long would it take for a leisurely walk around the lake?

I like to take photos. Which side of the lake is the most scenic, especially during sunrise and sunset?

      Thanks

    • Jiuzhaigou Region in April

      Jiuzhaigou Jul 23, 2015 at 5:34 PM

We have been told that March to April is low season in Jiuzhaigou. Only 5 star and several 4 stars hotels are open. The others will be closed to the end of April. Also there is only basic service in the area.

Is it still possible to go to Jiuzhaigou region in April (2016) or is it better to go later in the year? We know that the walking tracks may be closed but is it still possible to get public buses to/from the park area and are they regular? Also do the buses within the park still run?

    • Yanji day tours?

      Yanji Jul 21, 2015 at 7:19 AM

      Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows of any day tours for Yanji and surrounding region in China.
I'm going in October - but the city is literally an 'add-on' to a bigger tour.
Hence, the requirement for a day trip only.
My research suggests only buses and cabs to get around.
Yet the best attractions/scenery appear to be out of town.
Any one have any advice/experience re. this?
      Many thanks :)

Walking in the dark and distance to Baiyun Hotel

      Huangshan Jul 1, 2015 at 6:21 PM

I only have one night and two half-days on the mountain so I'm trying to fit as much as I can without over exhausting myself. I decided that staying at Baiyun would be the best midpoint for this trip but I was wondering if it would be safe for a 31 year old average-moderately athletic man to walk these routes in the dark in July.

I want to see Cloud Dispelling Pavilion during sunset but how long would it take to return to Baiyun and would it be safe to walk this route in the dark?

And in the morning, I wanted to wake up at 4am and walk to Fairy Walking Bridge for sunrise. How long is the walk and would this be do-able or would is it too dangerous in the early morning?

    • Hostel or Hotel near Jing'an College

      Shanghai Jul 18, 2015 at 8:13 AM

      Hello dear travellers,

My fiancée is in Shanghai at the moment to take a language class at the Shanghai Jing'an College, 601 Jiaozhou Rd, Jing'an, Shanghai. She still needs a place to stay, where she can sleep and study. Can anyone recommend a hostel or hotel or anything alike that is close to the college, or at least easy to get there?

And it should be cheap enough to afford a one month stay.

Thank you very much for your effort.

Connecting from Suzhou to Wuzhen and from Wuzhen to Hangzhou.

      Wuzhen Jul 7, 2015 at 10:57 PM

      Hi,

I am wondering which way is the easiest going from Suzhou to Wuzhen. Should I take the bus directly from Suzhou to Wuzhen or should I take the high speed train from Suzhou to Tongxiang and than transfer to a bus to Wuzhen? How long would it take by bus and by train and bus?

Is there a bus from Wuzhen to Hangzhou? Should I, instead, take the bus from Wuzhen to Tongxiang and then take the high speed train from Tongxiang to Hangzhou?

    • Issuing Tibet traveling permits in Kathmandu

      Tibet Jul 6, 2015 at 5:49 AM

Hi, Does any one know how long will it take to issue all the required permits for Tibet trekking through an Kathmandu agency? I plan to find a traveling agency to do the arrangements once I get to Kathmandu (September 2015) and was wandering how long will it take. If I understood correctly, the Tibet entry permit takes about 3 days to issue (with some extra costs), but the trek i want to do also requires an Alien’s Travel Permit, which i'm not sure can be issued so fast...

      Getting to and from Simatai

      Beijing Jul 1, 2015 at 7:02 PM

I read about the 980 Express Bus from Dongzhimen to Miyun bus station and then the Miyun mini buses to Simatai so I planned my whole trip around that. Upon more research, I found that many people never found the mini buses and were pressured to pay for a 200-400 RMB taxi ride to Simatai and then another to get back.

Has anyone actually taken the mini bus and how long does it take? I plan on taking the 980 bus from Beijing around 0700 on a Friday, around what time can I expect to arrive in Simatai? Or will I be forced to pay 200+ RMB to get from Miyun to Simatai and will I have trouble getting back to Beijing the next day?

      Senior tourists entrance fee

      Zhangjiajie Jan 31, 2015 at 6:08 AM

I wonder if we can apply for senior discounts visiting National parks, museum, etc in China. Last October, we visited zhangjiajie, Wulingyuan, Fenghuang...we showed our passports which the ages shown over 65 years old. Everywhere we went, we were charged normal entrance fee as the guide said that it is not applicable. I think the guide tried to overcharge us. Or the senior discount only apply for Chinese citizens? Since the fees are very expensive and we visited many places where fee required. It came up almost 1000 yuans for one week there.

      Hostel / Guest House accomodation

I am visiting Fenghuang with my partner and four year old daughter in early June. I have pre-booked a 3/4 star hotel on Agoba but feel that this is the sort of destination where I should be in a more traditional local guest house. However I want to pre-book all accommodation as with a young child I don't want to take risks. Any recommendations for smaller (nice) places that might have a website/email to pre book with? A couple of my friends and I, all of us in our twenties, are looking for the best places to go out at night in Hunan.
We love the idea of going to Hunan because it seems to mix the beauty of ancient China, with a new and upcoming city with tons of nightlife activities. While we have plenty of information on what sites to see, we are lacking in info about what the hotspots are for young people, which bars are good, what areas have the bet nightlife, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions for us?

What to photograph in Zhangjiajie Scenic Park(s)

      Zhangjiajie Jul 26, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Canadian here, semi-professional photographer, I sell my photos at my local crafters market and this helps me pay for my next trip. I've photographed China a few times already, customers love it. I'm going to ZJJ in September and have only 1 day to select the most photogenic spots of the Park and need help narrowing down my selections. I was thinking about Avatar mountain (it might sell, if I get some mists in the shot) and maybe Baofeng Lake (we don't have that kind of scenery in Canada especially the karst mountains), but what else? I've done Huangshan and I have a pretty good portfolio of that kind of topography so I really need something 'different'. I am doing Tianmenshan on another day, and the ZJJ Grand Canyon on the final day. So, just mainly speaking of the park and surrounding area (by publice transport), what shall I do? I noticed a lot of the scenery reminded me of Bryce Canyon in Utah (a different color tho!), so I'm not sure if that's really different enough for my folks. There's a couple natural bridges around there that might be cool. Other suggestions?

Fenghuang back to Hong Kong, September 2013

Hunan Sheng Jul 23, 2013 at 5:19 PM

I'm really having some difficulty mulling this one over and I really want to go to FH so I simply must find a way to do this: I'm still pondering my options to get from FH to (ultimately) Hong Kong in 1 day. If you've done this route before, can you give me some ideas? The first idea I got was to take a bus from FH in the morning to Changsha and catch a G-train to Shenzhen. But I understand that the bus can take from 5 hours to 7 hours to get to Changsha?? I tried to find a flight from Tongren to Guarngzhou, but the only 1 flight available leaves at 10pm and gets to Guangzhou at 1130pm so that doesn't help me. Then I had the bright idea to hire a taxi or guide to drive us from our previous hotel in Zhangjiajie to FH, stay overnight, and then have him drive us to Changsha in the morning, but I don't know how costly that would be and I don't know who to contact to get a quote. So, any other ideas? I really am set on 1 night in FH but we really have to get back to Hong Kong in 1 day and I like the bus idea to Changsha but 7 hours?? Really?

      FengHuang Phoenix Town question

Hunan Sheng Dec 13, 2010 at 1:48 PM

I'm sorting through a list of towns to visit in China in September 2011 and FengHuang has entered my radar as a possibility. Apparently, there is a lovely gorge nearby called the TiangLong Valley (or something like that) with steps bolted into the sides of the cliff to walk above the waterfalls. How do it find info on that and how to get there (and back?) For hotels in the town, I understand that there may be some new ones along the river which might be nicer than the listed ones on Tripadvisor. Has anyone been there recently and can recommend a (clean) hotel for 2 older ladies who are still fairly active? We'd like to be close to the scenic spots in town. Also, I need info on how best to get there from either the nearest city's airport or the nearest city's bus station that has frequent buses to and from FengHuang. Dont' worry about where it is, we'll there (fly in?) in order to save time as we only have 10 days in China and many towns to visit (In order, first draft: Shanghai, Hangzhou, Huangshan, Xingyi, Taiyuan, Pingyao, Beijing). Information websites would be most apprciated!
