transportation around Hue

by eastmann Online Now Aug 21, 2009 at 3:01 AM

Hi all, I just realise the bridge across the river to the citadel is huge! Not something you can easily walk across from the city centre. Are there busses to the citadel and how much would they cost ? Where can I take them ? Also , what's the current reasonable rate of hiring taxis cyclos, etc ? I'll be staying at the Tha Binh 2 hotel, anyone travelled there by bus before ? and where can I take the bus from the city centre back to the airport ? thanks much , this will make easier in case it rains, or I get too tired of walking. cheers! E

You can cross the bridge on foot and walk besides the river up to the citadel ( Imperial Palace) Also this is the area where you may get a boat to visit the Perfume River

A cyclo is good way to get around the city. I hired one for one hour and it cost 30,000dong last year. Prices vary as you have to barter for a price, so its up to you how much you pay!

In Hue I've also stayed in the Thai Binh 2 hotel and I just walked to the citadel. If I remember correctly, it took met 20 - 30 minutes with a lot of fotostops. I always take an umbrella with me, good for the rain AND the sun. To visit the imperial tombs (they are really very very beautiful) I arranged a motodup taxi in the hotel. Last year in June 2008 it costed 8 US$ for a half day.

As Katia says, it is only a ~25 minute walk from hotel to the citadel, including stops and crossing the bridge. The bridge is not that massive. It will take ~3 minutes to cross walking. I walked Hue forwards, backwards and everywhere for 3 days. I felt very comfortable walking the city since the distances were manageable and the streets were easy to navigate.
