HELP IN HUE

by jekie Online Now Jul 1, 2009 at 12:21 AM

Hello!! Planning a trip to Hue and was wondering if anyone can help me plan the places to visit in Hue. We are a group of 6 adults and would want to go around by ourselves so that we don't need to be rushed instead of going on a packaged tour. We will be in Hue for 2 nights then we move to Hoi Ann for another 2 nights before heading back to HCM. Are there any not to be missed places? We are interested in historical and adventure type of activities. Do you think it is better to hire a car/van to take us around on specific places of interest? Also, are there any places between Hue and Hoi An that we can pass along when we move to Hoi An? Your inputs will be highly appreciated! Best, Jekie

I was in Hue just a month or two ago. It is possible to view the citadel and the tombs in a day. There are several tombs to choose from. Tu Doc is the largest and most popular. The others are smaller, but thankfully also less traveled. Depending on the day excursions that you choose two or three days are plenty. Hue is about 3 hours north of Da Nang and about 2 hours south of the DMZ (near Dong Ha). About another 30 minutes past Da Nang is Hoi An. Honestly, there is not much to stop for between Hue and Da Nang. Feel free to visit my pages or others: Hue Travel Guide

Yes, if you want to do it yourselves, hire a van. cost around 60-65USD for a day city tour and you can go where you want to go. From Hue to Hoi An can stop by to visit Lang Co beach, Hai Van pass, Marble Moutain and Cham Museum. Enjoy,

I really think a visit to the three Tombs is a must. They are Khai Dinh, Minh Mang & Tu Duc. You can go on your own, and do research on each so that you know about them, the history was quite interesting. Also, the Citidel in town is a must.

I really enjoyed Hue and I think you're budgeting well time-wise. Suggestions of what to see: HUE The Citadel is like Beijing's Forbidden City - only much smaller. Some lovely things to see though, like the Ngo Mon Gate, Forbidden Purple City and a variety of palaces, temples and residences. Well worth the visit! The Perfume River - especially at night. The chameleon-like bridge changes colours and dragon boats offer romantic trips, some even include traditional Vietnamese music performances. Dong Ba Market is worth a visit - typical colourful Vietnamese experience. Thien Mu Pagoda is a must. Beautiful and also displays the car driven by monk Thich Quang Duc when he self-immolated in 1963. Watch out for the little monks going about their daily duties. The Emperors Tombs is another must-see. I most enjoyed the tomb of Khai Dinh, which is probably the gariest! Other good ones are Tu Duc and Minh Mang. BETWEEN HUE AND HOI AN Definitely places to see! Lang Co Beach is picturesque and we saw a beautiful high-prowed boat pulled up on the sand. Hotels offer drinks for a relaxing break from the road. Hai Van Pass also provides spectacular views of the coastline. In Danang, you'll find the Cham Museum, which nicely complements a later visit to My Son. The Marble Mountain is spectacular with wonderful caves, temples and great views over the central Vietnamese coastline. Enjoy, you'll have a great time!

Thank you all for your inputs... now I AM REALLY EXCITED for the trip!!! It's still in October but I just want to know the options and if I can, I would book everything in advance so that I don't have to worry or forget things as the date comes closer. Any advise on where to stay? I'm looking at Hue Holiday Hotel or the Victory Hotel. LAstly, would any of you have any info on how much it would take to book a van to bring us to Hoi An from Hue? Again.. thank you sooooo much!!!

From Hoi An To Hue should be about 75-80USD. I recommend Orchid Hotel in Hue. Or Camellia Hue (the 4* one).

We stayed at the Thanh Noi Hotel 2 yrs ago and really liked. It is right outside the Citadel, across the street from the west (I think) wall. We wrote a review: Hue Hotel Tips by bpwarne Unless you plan to tour the DMZ area you probably do not need more than two days. Hue is a relaxing city at least we thought, and a nice place to linger. People were great also.

I stayed at the Holiday Hotel and found it excellent. I have tip on it and photos on my Hue page. Click on my name, then Hue in the travel pages.

Information is not wrong, but maybe the interpretation is. In many countries, you may "hire" a car, but that may include a driver in countries such as Vietnam, India, Indonesia, etc. (just to name a few examples).

Edeet, would you be kind enough to PLEASE highlight for all of us EXACTLY who posted the wrong information and IDENTIFY that wrong information... Because for the life of me I cannot see ANYONE suggesting the poster hire a car and drive around Vietnam by themself. From what I can see you did not CORRECT ANYONE!
