HI... Depends on your road trip which one you will see on your way...Sun Moon Lake to Alisan is very far...i think you need to decide whether you like to stay at the lake before heading to Alisan because you need to ride on the boat for good view of Sun Moon Lake. And for Alisan, the interesting part is watching the sunrise early in the morning. you can either do the both if you have enough time. For me, i chose Alisan.

I think it's definitely advisable to dwell at Sun Moon Lake! Other than the late, there are also many scenic & cultural spots in the surrounding area that are worthwhile to visit! You should certainly check out Paper Dome, located in Taomi Village, Puli Township, Nantou County. I feel that Paper Dome is really a beautiful place that you should visit if you're looking for a short getaway from the city! Moreover, it is located along the way to Sun Moon Lake and very convenient if you're driving (free parking!). Also, surrounding Paper Dome is Toami Village, which was devestated by the 921 Earthquake but managed to re-brand itself into an eco-village. For the nature lovers it is definately a must visit as Taomi Village is now the gem of Taiwan Eco-tourism! However, most of the information available about Paper Dome on the internet currently are in Chinese. Luckily I found an English blog at http://paperdome.blogspot.com so feel free to take a look!

hihi, any suggestion whether to stay overnight at hualien if we are going back taipei the next day?
