Hi, we are relocating to Houston in the next few months and are looking at areas that have great schools and nice neighborhoods with low crime. Looking heavily at Friendswood or possible Mont Belvieu area. What can you tell me about the towns and schools? Thanks!
Are there any downtown hotels in Houston that have an airport shuttle service?
I am looking to rent a Class "B" RV (a conversion van) the smallest of campers but cannot find a dealer in Houston - any suggestions? I would also take a VW or Westfalia camper. Here's hoping...
12 Jan. 2013 Hello VT er, We are visiting people from Katy and on the day we fly back, our host is unavailable able to drive us to the airport. Does anyone have good suggestion getting to the International George Bush Airportt? We will be coming from Katy, Texas ( north Katy, near Cooperfield). We realized on our first day here in Texas, how huge and vast is Texas, one needs a vehicle otherwise you can't get anywhere. Texas has so much to offer to tourists. Its a very attractive place to visit, but again, you need your vehicle.. Many thanks for any suggestions getting to International George Bush Airport. Listenandlearn.
I will be attending a conference early next year at The Westin Oaks Houston at the Galleria, located at 5060 West Alabama in Houston. All the hotel rooms reserved for the conference are already booked and I am wondering if there is another hotel within walking distance? Thanks so much.
5 December 2012 Hello our dear VT'ers, We are spending most of our Christmas at a small town in Texas which is called "KATY", and we suppose a bit larger than Katy would be Houston. Upon our arrival at George Bush International airport, we wish to shop few large fresh salmon. When we shop for these things, we prefer to buy them from Chinatown. Would there be a Chinatown in Houston nearest the George Bush International Airport? If so, could you please give us the main street as we will be using a GPS for our guidance. I am a sou chef and this is the way, we love entertaining friends, cooking few mediterrean dishes.. Many thanks dear VTers' Listenandlearn.
27 November 2012 Hello dear VT'ers, My wife and I will be spending 3 weeks for Christmas holiday in Houston, Texas. As we see Houston, Texas is one city you will need a vehicle. Can anyone suggest an economical car rental for two weeks. There is just two of us, so, perhaps a small car is efficient for this trip. Many thanks to all and wishing you all a VERY HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! Listenandlearn.

I am not interested in touristy stuff, but more the essence or flavor of a neighborhood or area. Any tips on cool cafes, places to dance, places to hoop, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

We are from Canada, a family of 3 adults and three kids ages 8-13 flying to Houston for the first time in Feb 2012 and then going to Galveston to go on a cruise. However, we were thinking of staying for a couple of days prior to our cruise in Houston to see NASA & do some shopping in Houston. My questions are: what hotels are suitable for families that are in a safe area with amenities close by like stores, restaurants and such. We will probably rent a car to travel around. Is there any other hidden gems to see and any other suggestions you may have for first time tourists? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated!!

The Metro Direct bus from the airport to downtown looks pretty good. It's a 45 minute ride that costs4.50 (versus estimated44- for a taxi). Anyone used this before? This may be the way to visit museums and stay over during layover in Houston...
This seems similar to other posts. We're basically stuck at the George Bush Airport for 18 hrs in outbound direction and 5 hrs in the return direction. We'll need a hotel for the 18 hr wait, but the 5 hrs needs entertainment?
My hubby is travelling to Houston, TX for bz trip next week and it is his first visit there. Like to know if there is any shopping outlets like Old Navy, Gap etc within Houston itself. And what is the operation hours for these stores. Thanks

I am an American citizen traveling from Mexico City to Savannah Georgia on the 8th of July with my wife who is of Mexican nationality. I bought a ticket from MEX-Savannah. When I checked the flight information more closely it seems I have a connecting flight in Houston. All flights are Continental airlines. (1085 arrives at 9:07, 2295 to Savannah leaves at 10:30). It seems I only have 1 hour and 23 minutes to get through customs and immigration with my wife, check in at Continental’s domestic terminal, do the appropriate security checks and board the plane. My questions are as follows: 1. Is it reasonable to assume that I have enough time to make the plane to Savannah, or did I make a mistake booking this reservation and should rebook? 2. How much time would a normal customs and immigration check take? 3. How close is the Domestic Terminal of Continental Airlines to the International terminal?
Thanks for the replies on my first question. I am looking at the IAH terminal map and it appears that when I arrive in terminal B I will have to clear security again at terminal E if I ride the tram all the way to the final stop which is located between D and E. From the map it looks like I can hop off on the next to last stop which is terminal C,and from there walk onwards to terminal E without having to stand in line and go thru security again. Is this correct?
