Safe Areas/Apartments near LBJ Hospital (north of 610 loop)

by Dark_Rain Online Now May 7, 2006 at 10:32 PM

I'm a small single female getting ready to relocate to Houston for a year to work at hospitals. I don't know much about the area, but enough to know that traffic is a hassle and getting around requires a lot of patience and caution. I will be spending the most of my time working at LBJ Hospital, right north of the 610 loop, with some months at the Texas Medical Center. Right now, my main concern is safety, as I've heard from people in Houston about the increasing crime, especially after the influx of Hurricane Katrina victims. I'm from a small town, and this is my first time renting an apartment. My main concerns are safety within a reasonable cost ($700) for a one bedroom. I don't mind driving to TMC, but hope to find an apartment at least close to LBJ so gas prices won't break the bank for me. I don't mind having things in walking distance, that's what a car is for. Any help on this would be wonderful.
