We will be doing a Norway cruise in September 2013. What would you recommend seeing in Bergen in 1 day?
Hello. How can I get from Bergen to Lofthus by public transport? What is the best way? How much time will it take? Thank you
I visited Norway a year ago and purchased these adorable little troll dolls at a small gift shop in Bergen. www3.telus.net/public/a6a911... I lost them and want to buy new ones but can't seem to find them online. I think the only place where they're sold are at the small gift shops (that cater to tourists), like this one pgoh13.com/oslo/oslo_store.j... My problem is, I have no way of contacting these little gift shops (as none of them have any online website). I tried contacting the larger retail stores, but none of them carry this particular troll. So I have a request, can someone in Norway get me the contact information for a small gift shop like the one pictured here. pgoh13.com/oslo/oslo_store.j... I'd like to email them to ask them if they carry the troll doll that I'm looking for. Thank you, Minh
I am a woman of a "certain age" planning a solo trip to Scandinavia in May. I have travelled alone a lot and like to travel as inexpensively as I can, staying in B&Bs or old pensions, or sleep over on a train. I am happy with trains and planes but not automobiles (too expensive to do alone). I'd like to be in either Bergen or Oslo for the 17th of May, Independence Day. Is doing the Oslo-Flam-Gudvangen-Bergen "nutshell" on my own possible? It looks like it would be, and cheaper than going on a tour. I am also planning several days in Copenhagen, and perhaps a few in Stockholm. It seems like flying into any of them from the States is cheapest on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am limited more by my pocketbook than by time. I would expect to spend between two and three weeks altogether. This is almost certainly my only trip to Scandinavia. My questions for you: (1) do I need to buy train or plane tickets in the States, before I leave (I know I would for a Eurailpass but it looks like it might be cheaper to wait and buy local ones). I assume I'll need to make hotel reservations before I leave. and (2) please critique/offer suggestions about my itinerary. Any advice you can give would be gratefully received.
Will be visiting Bergen in the new year, looking to go skiing, recommend anywhere here? Looking forward to the visit can't wait to try the nightlife too!
Hi all! We'll be arriving in Bergen 25 july by ship (MSC MAGNIFICA). The ship stops will be Flam, Bergen, Stavanger, Oslo. We are mainly interested in seeing as many fjords as possible and nice scenery in general and doing outdoor activities. 1) We have 8 hours to spend in Bergen. 8:00 -18:00. Could we combine a cruise in Bergen fjords and a tour in the city? A ho-ho bus maybe? A friend said that in Bergen there aren't deep fjord areas. Should we spend our money elsewhere in a cruise in another location with more spectacular fjords you think? 2) Any rafting centers there (for beginners)? Thanks!
I'm going to visit Norway in late August and places that i want to go are the western fjord area and if time permits to go to Lofoten Islands too. (i have 6 days to be spent in this area) What i have in mind is - take a flight into Bergen and then rent a car to drive around Bergen, Fjords, drive up north (coastal route) to Alesund, Molde and eventually Trondheim. Along the way i hope i could do Geirangerfjord and some other scenic places. Plan to do this in 2 days. From there, take a (roundtrip) plane into BODO or straight to Lofoten for 2 days and then coming back to Trondheim. From Trondheim, rent a car again to drive back to Bergen (preferably different route) - if possible do it in 1 day only. Otherwise, do it in two days too before leaving Bergen for Stockholm. Do the above make sense ? Thanks, JOE
I'm plannig to join the parade in Bergen this year and I would really appreciate any help with details about the program. Please give me a fast answer as... today is already 16th :)) All the best!

My wife and myself are travelling on a Norwegian Fjords cuise on 4th May 2012 visiting Bergen Flam . Oslo, Geiranger. What kind of outdoor clothing do you suggest we wear. Many thanks.
If you want to go in another place outside Bergen, like Stalheim, what is the cheapest way to travel? Train doesn't go everywhere so i suppose bus is the only cheap way right? But are there routes from Bergen to other places outside Bergen?
Hi everyone, I've been trying to figure out how to get from bergen to the nigard glacier for glacier hikes like this -> bfl.no/blue-ice-family-trip..... From what i have read so far, it seems to me that to get to nigard glacier from bergen, i'll first have to find my way to Sogndal (by train or by plane) and then take a bus from sogndal to the glacier. Is this correct? Also, is it possible to do this trip as a day trip from bergen?
My wife and I will be in Bergen arriving 29th March and leaving 2nd April, 2012. Will it be possible to join a day trip to the fiords within those dates. Do we have to make advance reservation or can we just walk in and buy when we are there. We will be staying at Best Western Hordaheimen.
Hi, Is/are there taxi service or tourguides with cars available in Eidfjord. We 'll be arriving by cruiseship in May 2012 and do not wish to go on a organised shore excursion. We rather be toured by a local ( company) Thanks, Jaap
I am looking for the nearest airport to EidfjordI to fly into. Thanks for your help.
We will be in Bergen early March and would like to know how to make a day trip to Hardangerfjord and Vøringfossen waterfall. I read there are buses from Bergen to Hardanger, however we are unsure of which stops to alight. And how far is Vøringfossen from the bus stop
I am visiting Bergen in late October. I would like to take the train to Oslo as I have heard so much about the trip. But will the weather be good enough this time of year to make the 7hr trip worth the time? I only have a few days in Bergen. Thanks for your input
Hi, I am currently on a 3 week vacation in Bergen. I have pretty much spent 2 weeks already. As this is my second trip, in total I have visited Oslo, Bergen, climbed many mountains (saw the glacier), been on the Flåm and have made a trip to Geiranger and a few other spectacular Fjords. This weekend, I would be going to Stavangar. After this, I have another week to explore before I fly back to my home in Singapore. Could anyone give me suggestions on what I could see in the remaining week (I have about 6 days) in Norway? I was also thinking of visiting countries like Sweden. Denmark, France, Italy on the Eurail train as I have not been to these places. do you think it is feasible to explore these places in a week on the train? Please suggest. Rani
I have only 3 days and 2 nights in Norway and I prefer to spend 2 nights in Bergen. So from Oslo anyone know an efficient route to travel to Bergen which I can also visit fjord on the way as well? Sound greedy but I guess possible :) I heard that Flam is also nice to stop by but not sure I can make it in one day. Please help .....
We end a cruise in Bergen on a Sunday in early September and would like to spend 2 nights with 1 night near the golf course and another night near the train station heading for Oslo. Any suggestions as to a "memorial" golf course, transportation, how to get to golf course, etc.... This is all going to be a new destination for us.
please could you tell me the best way to travel from Bergen to Radoy. This is a business trip having travelled to Bergen Airport from London. Thank you
Is there another way to go to Buer Glacier without hiking ? I noticed that is around 6/7hours hiking to go and return to the glacier. Which is te easy way to achieve the glacier ?
Hello everyone and thank you in advance for answering our questions! We are planning a 7-day trip to Norway (our honeymoon actually!) in July. We would like to spend 4 days on the fjords - see Bergen and probably Alesund - and end up in Oslo, spend another couple of days there and fly home from there. 1) Is it better to fly to Bergen and start the journey from there? 2) Would you recommend the 'Norway in a nutshell' tour? 3) we would also like to visit Geiranger. Do we have to get to Alesund and join a tour from there? If so, what's the best way to get to Alesund? For example, is there a train or bus connection? Are there cruises/tours that depart from Alesund? 4) How should we get from Alesund to Oslo? Sorry for the mutliple questions and again thanks for taking the time to reply. Kastoras
Hello, I'll be in Bergen for 2 and a half days next week before taking the Norway in a Nutshell tour to Oslo. I am planning to walk around town, visit Bryggen + maybe a museum and go up Mount Floyen the first 1 1/2 days. However, I'm not sure wich option is best for the 3rd day... I would like to see some scenery/nature or even take a nice walk/small hike if the weather's not too bad. Which of these options would you recommend (I won't have a car)? - Go up Mount Ulriken (is it different from Mount Floyen?) - Go to Troldhaugen - Visit Gamle Bergen - Take a boat to Rosendal - Take a boat to Balestrand (I've heard it is quite nice for walks, but it seems a bit far from Bergen, though) - Any other suggestion is welcome Thanks a lot for your help! :)
We will arive in train station and we want to go to Clarion Hotel Havnekontoret in Bryggen. I know there is a free city bus. BUT WE ARRIVE SATURDAY morning and from what we know this buses does not operate on weekends. EXCEPT TAXI and on foot options DO ANYBODY KNOW A TRAM or BUS SERVICE TO use it ??? Thank you in advance.
