in HK for 6 days

by un6abe3yah Online Now Apr 15, 2012 at 2:07 PM

Hi, I will be visiting Hong Kong for the first time, for 6 days starting April 25. I would like to know what's the best area to stay? I'm not sure if beaches for relaxing and tanning are an option at this time?? I would also like to do some shopping, try good restaurants, and experience the nightlife. I'm an amateur photographer,so any suggestions for good shooting locations would be helpful. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks :)

Hi - we stayed at the Langham in Kowloon. Super nice hotel and convenient to everything we needed. For photography, some of the places I'd suggest: Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, the Flower Market, the Goldfish Market, Victoria Harbor (during the day and for the nightly Symphony of Lights show), and The Peak.

Waterfront promenade in Kowloon is good place for taking photos too: just go there on evening when Symphony of Light is on, but you'll need tripod of very stable hand for good shots (of find some place to put your camera on). Many good restaurants with fresh and affordable seafood are on lamma island, it's the place I recommend for a visit anyways if you have 6 days in Hong Kong. There are beaches too, but I cannot tell if the water is good enough to swim in April. Kowloon is very good area to stay if you want to experience multicultural face of HK. there are places to stay from low budget through middle or high end, you just have to be little more specific about how much money you're prepared to stay. I'd guess if you have no financial limits, then old charm of Peninsula hotel would beat any other :) I agree good shopping (markets) and photo-taking area is what Donna mentioned earlier, but you won't find shortage of luxurious malls too, just walk around Central in Wan Chai, or Causeway bay. For sure you cannot get bored in HK that time, also try ride by old tram on HK Island, Star Ferry ride, or just take ride by city buses in Kowloon, sit on the second floor and you'll see plenty of a place.

In 6 days you can pack in a lot - 1) Usually a tourist prefers to stay in the midst of city hubbub and ofcourse for easy access - Kowloon area or HK island area but I usually stay in New Territories with superb connectivity to the city since this area is more quiter and at the same time easily accessible to the city. Yes it takes abt an hr to reach the city, but travelling in HK is a calkwalk. 2) Shopping - Tons and Tons of shopping depending on the budget and your needs etc Apart from the Malls - Harbour City, Langham place, isquare, Elements etc etc which are very high end ; You can visit - Ladies Market ( MongKok ), Jade Market for ladies (exactly opp Tin Hau Temple ( get off @ Yau Ma Tei MTR and hail a cab or walk 15 mins towards Tin Hau Temple which is a good place to visit ), Repulse Bay ( on the route of Ocean park ) 3) Sightseeing + Photography - HK is photographer's paradise. Mongkok(Kowloon) and Causeway Bay ( HK island ) are THE places for shopping and photography. Other places you must visit ( for photos too ) are - Giant Buddha, ( a must ) Peak ( after 4.30 pm for day n night view ) Avenue of stars ( light show @ 8 pm ), Disneyland, Take a "Big Bus Tour", discoverhongkong.com/eng/loc... Ocean park if interested, Temple of 1000 Buddhas ( Shatin area ) 4) MTR drops you @ every major place in HK. Use their website to plan your routes. Grab a 3 day MTR pass which offers unlimited rides on MTR network with specific free Airport Express rides. Take Care Have fun
