where is the best place to get a close-up picture of the hollywood sign? as a family and free
Check out http://www.hollywoodsign.org/see.html, which mentions four spots. However, I think the best free place to take pictures of the sign is at the Griffith Observatory (http://www.griffithobs.org). Another place is the viewpoint at the eastern section of the Mulholland Drive.

I agree with the previous post that the Griffith Observatory on north Vermont in Los Angeles is the best spot to see the sign along with a great view of LA.
