We are arriving at Hoek van Holland and we have a Eurail pass, what is the best way to get to Keukenhof?

You can find all train/tram/bus and metro schedules here: http://9292.nl/en (English version).
All information about Keukenhof here: http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/ (English version).

Now, Hoek van Holland (Haven) station is the end of the line... you need to take a train to Schiedam and from there change trains to Leiden (all in all this takes an hour).
From Leiden there are direct buses to Keukenhof (info on above website): "The number 854 bus leaves from the bus station at Leiden Central Station (town centre side). The journey to Keukenhof takes 25 minutes. The last bus back to Leiden Central Station leaves at 19.51."

You will need to buy a ticket for the bus (Eurail is only train, I suppose).
If you have time, Leiden is worth a visit too. Rembrandt was born there, it has the oldest university and wonderful botanic university garden and excellent museums, shops and lovely old city center. Or you could have a nice bite to eat in Leiden (much better than the cafetaria stuff at Keukenhof).

btw... you can bring your own food to Keukenhof and have a picknick.

It will probably be cheaper to buy a train ticket rather than use a day on your eurailpass btw.

That is well possible. Sorry, I didn't realise how Eurail works. A return ticket Hoek van Holland Haven-Leiden is 19,80 euro, a single ticket is 9.90 euro (full rate, 2nd class).

The bus fare will be about 7 euro (return). However, we work with chipcards here which you won't have. The ticket that you buy in the bus will possibly be higher.

With Visa or Mastercard you can order combi-tickets online (that includes your return bus fare to and from Keukenhof): ticketing2.wheretocard.nl/ke...

these combi tickets are also from sale at a temp. office set up right beside the KKhof bus in Leiden-expect giant Qs on sunny hotter (as now) sundays. Open eyes and follow signs.
IF you want to continue on to AMsterdam same day- buy ticket at HvH for AMS-breaks are allowed-its cheaper as 2 singles, allthough it would be even quicker to take BUS from KKHof to Schiphol then-but its best to leave luggages in lockers at Leiden station-these now ONLY work with bankcards!!
Chip cards are NOT valid on special buses like this-its not thought of as OV=public transit (you can use it-by using the nr 50 bus+much longer walk in Lisse)
