Hi! Looking for the most affordable/quickest way to get to Montezuma from San Jose airport for a family of 5? As well as return for the flight home! - Is it more efficient to fly into Liberia and travel to Montezuma from there or San Jose? Thanks
Hello. This will be my first time going to CR. I'll be going with a gf to celebrate our bdays. I need advise on places to go, rental car, lodging, etc. I think I planned too many places to visit. Here is the itinerary I came up with, please let me know what places I should leave out. Thanks :)

Stay 1 night in Arenal Volcano NP
Llanos Del Cortes
Stay 1 night in Tamarindo
Stay 1 night in Samara
Stay 2 Nights in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais
-Taxi Boat to Jaco
Stay 1 Night in Manual Antonio
(1) Night in Dominical
Drive to San Jose, 6am flight out on 3/15
HI - because of crazy airline offers - and a late decision - I am planning to fly to Costa Rica from the States in order to get to Granada. Flying to Liberia is more costly, of course, so I am wondering if it is worth it. Is it cheap and not too much a struggle with luggage to get from Liberia to Granada? I could also fly into San Jose in the evening and then take a Tica Bus at 3 am, although I would be risking not getting a seat. Does anyone know if there is a Ticabus office/stand at the airport, or when the Ticabus office would open? Say I arrived around 9 pm, what would be the best place to hang out and wait? The airport is probably the safest but I would want to make sure I got on the Ticabus. Any adivice? thanks!
My husband, daughter and I (3 adults) are going for a very brief vacation to Costa Rica. Flying into San Jose on Dec 21 morning, flying out on Dec 24. To get the most out of our mini vacation where we don't spend most of our time driving from one place to the other, I have a few questions:
1) We are thinking of renting a car. Is it advisable?
2) Some of the things we want to see or visit are the volcanos, hot springs, rainforests etc. My daughter will most likely enjoy ziplining. Where should we stay so we don't spend most of our time driving?
3) Any sightseeing to do near San Jose or should we head directly to an area closest to above sites I mentioned?
All suggestions will be highly appreciated
My girlfriend and I are looking to go some where on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. Here is what we are looking for:
Nice beaches, jungle/nature - ability to do excursions, see monkeys, hike and so on. We don't want something so secluded that there is nothing to do at night but we don't need to be in the middle of a big city... About 6 years ago I was in Puerto Viejo, looking for something like that but hopefully with some better beaches. Please give suggestions for towns/areas and any accommodations. Thank you from Alaska
We will be in Costa Rica for 2 weeks between the end of January and the beginning of February.
We tried to plan a bit the itinerary and we came to this:
1: First night in San Jose, we will arrive late in the evening.
2:Organized trip to Tortuguero (it is maybe good to have something organized for the first days since we will have some jet-lag problems...).
3: Back to San Jose and flight to Puerto Jimenez (if we do not manage to fly the same evening, we will sleep in San Jose and take a plane the next morning).
4: La Leona ecolodge
5: Walk to Sirena
6: Walk back to La Leona
7 e 8: Rent a car and spend the two days on the coast to Puntarenas.
9: Arrive in Puntarenas, take a ferry to Playa Naranjo, and drive to Samara.
10 e 11: two nights at Villa Baula.
12 e 13: Poas volcano.
14: Back to San Jose, and then back home the next morning at 7.00!
- What do you think about our itinerary? Should we "move" some night somewhere else?
We are wondering if we should spend one more night at Sirena and one less at Poas.
- Corcovado tour: we asked at La Leona ecolodge and they can organize a guide for us for 120 $/day for the walk to Sirena. It is quite a lot... Can maybe someone recommend to us a "private" guide? Would it be cheaper?
- Always for Corcovado: do we really need boots?
- Car rental: What is the best option for a car rental, assuming that we are at La Leona?(Where? Which company?) La Leona suggested us: toyotarent, alamocostarica, solidcarrental.
- 2 days on the coast (7 and 8): some advice? What are the best places to visit? Where to stay?
It should be all for the moment...
Thanks a lot!
My adult daughter and I will be in the area the first week of January. She mostly wants to go to a beach. I want to take some excursions, and to swim where the waves will not knock me over.
I prefer simple lodgings; my daughter says, "No hostels." What can you recommend?
HI - I have bought my plane ticket, I will be arriving in San Jose around 9 pm Sunday - I do not have the use of a scanner so I cannot buy a bus ticket in advance (you have to scan in your passport) - This is unfortunate of course. I would like to go for the Tica bus as 3 am but that is dicey. Is the Tica office in the main bus station? Any chance it would be open around 10 pm? I think the Transnica office is elsewhere. Would they be open? I might spend all night without sleep and get nowhere. If I could check on the ticket situation on arrival, then go to a hotel if I cannot get a night ticket, after having secured a ticket for the morning, that could work. Are there other, funkier buses leaving for Liberia/the border during the night? Thanks, Jean
Hi All, We would like to vist and have heard of a B&B called the Orchid Lodge. It is 1 km. from Barva nearby the coffee plantation: Cafe Tal. 2 couples will be going. One of them is a vet. and loves animals. The other is interested in the ocean. Is it near the ocean? Is there a Club. Med. located nearby? What is the best time of year to go, as far as weather is concerned. Any other suggestions for good accomodation would be appreciated. The Orchid Lodge is located 10 k's from San Jose. Is there a lot to see and do there? Thanks dawnhopeful
Hi- I am planning to visit Hereida sometime before the end of the year. Do you have any recommendations for affordable (cheap) hotels? I am planning to stay for 2-3 weeks. It doesn't have to be anything fancy- just relatively clean and safe. Also, is there one time of the year I should definitely avoid? Thanks- any information will be really helpful!
