I've heard that there is a Restaurant Day in Helsinki every year. It is a popular event that started in Helsinki a couple of years ago and have spread over the whole world. It's a day when anybody can have a restaurang of their own in a whole day and sell food in different ways. If I'm right there are more than one restaurang day/year. My question to you is: When is the next Restaurant Day? I would like to be a part of it.

My dad and i are going on a Scandinavia cruise and are at a toss-up when it comes to picking the excursion for Helsinki. We have narrowed it down to 2 tours. Both are the same except one has a "visit" to Sibelius Park and Monument and the other Sees (not actually visits) Suomenlinna Fortress. Any opinions?

Thirty years ago when I was in Helsinki in January or early February we went to a park where there was a kind of flea market and also some huge ice scupltures (including a giant WC). All I recall apart from that is there seemed to be apartments across the road on at least one side of the park. I think it was a Saturday, the stalls were selling new items displayed on long tables - clothing craft, jewellery etc (not a flea market). I am sure it was winter as there was snow everywhere and my feet were frozen! Does the market or the ice scuplture display still exist and if so, where is it and when is the market held?

What is your advice for buying a micro SIM for an unlocked Iphone at Helsinki? Is it possible to do it at the airport upon arrival? I just need a pay as you go micro SIM with a data plan (3G) in order to have a good internet connection for a period of 7 days. Regards! Omar.

we plan to stay for 4 days in Helsinki. if we add 3-4 extra days is Tampere a good choice? any suggestion of things to do/see in Tampere? We wont use a car just a local bus or train, so is it easy to do it from the capital? our flight back is from Helskini at 14.00. do we have enough time to come from Tampere earlier that day or should be in Helskini the day before to be on the safe side?

How big are the ferries to st. Petersburg? I am not a cruise person and the few times I have been on hydrofoil type boats in was nautious (sp?) by the time I got off. If we did this, it would be perhaps next summer, so I'm guessing the sea isn't too horribly rough then.

We are going to Kalasatama to see Metallica at monday. How late does the metro run? What other options there are to come back to the centre? I guess we wont be only one going back, so there coul be a plan b just in case we miss the metro.. Buses and trams I think, but how we know we go to right way? Would be nice to know and not to need to ask for a driver. Are the cellphone tickets still in use?

I'll be visiting Helsinki in April and I've only got a few days in the city so I'm trying to figure out where everything is so that I can maximize my sightseeing. I'm trying to create a map of everything there is to do and see in the city based on stuff from this site as well as others. If someone of you living in Helsinki has been to Cantina west lately, have you liked it? We have booked a table for friday night, for my husbands 40th birthday. No he found some comments at eat.fi that past moths the quality of the food has gone down. I have heard there is a new boss at the restaurant. Now we wonder if we should cancel it.. And if so, where would we get fajitas for him and a good steak for me? I know Santa Fe, but is there any others? There is Gringos Locos also, but since we have it at Tampere, we´d prefer something that we wont get in here.

My son is heading to Helsinki for a month on Feb 15. He will be staying with a family so I know they will look after him and probably have old jackets etc that they can lend him once he finds out how cold it is. He lives in Sydney and has never experienced really cold weather. When he came to visit me in New Zealand and we had a bit of a cold snap he really complained. So I know it will be a shock. What I want to know is are houses and malls superheated so as soon as you go in you feel really over dressed? Would thermal underwear (except if you go out snowballing) make you feel sweaty and uncomfortable inside?
