Helsinki in April

by saussi67 Online Now Oct 24, 2007 at 5:36 PM

Hi there, I am travelling to Helsinki in April 08, my friend is meeting me there. So what is there to do in short time. What is easily accessible. I have read about getting some beer and sitting in the park and drinking but I can do that anywhere!! What else is there to do and see? Any and all suggestions most welcome.

I wonder if you really did check this site for what to do? Anyhow, in Helsinki EVERYTHING is easily accessible, you can do sightseeing, see the churches and museums here. Take a walk in the nice parks in the city, go to the forests and lakes in the outskirts of the city. Go to sauna and swim in the lake. Take a cruise to the small island's around here or go all the way to Sweden. And of course, the nightlife, restaurants, pubs and clubs, to enjoy it here where women can drink as much beer as men can. Also depends of how long the winter will be, but usually you can still do ski here in April.

Although I've only visited during early Summer, start by taking the tram line 3T or 3B for a sightseeing of some of the must sees. Don't forget to take a brochure so that you know what you're seeing. Info on my Helsinki page.

I recommend you and your friend taking the boat to Suomenlinna (An island just outside Helsinki). There you can do your sightseeind and if the weather will allow you, you can also sit down in the park and have your beer ;)! Suomenlinna is an island where lies an old fortress of Finland. There are still the remains of the relatively small fortress with cannons and also museums. It is a popular place during the summertime to hang out and visit. The boats go from Kauppatori every hour, since people also live in the island. The tickets are the same as to any other puplic transport in the city - so if you have a day ticket for the transports, you can use that for this. Anything else you want to do - shopping,sports,cafees,beer....you name it. Its all in the central of Helsinki. Remember even though Helsinki is our capital and the largest city we got, it still is in a global scale quite small, so it makes everything near also :)! Jussi

I was wondering more about non touristy things to do. Oh and my friend is travelling from London, so no she is not a local and can't tell me what to do. We are in Helsinki for two days.
