I'm a US citizen flying from San Francisco to Mumbai via London Heathrow. My layover is from 12 noon till 9 PM (9 hours). I booked my flight through Virgin Atlantic directly but my connecting flight from LHR to Mumbai is on a codeshare airline (Jet Airways). I've found out that I'll be able to check my bags all the way through from SFO to Mumbai.
I was also told that I can do an airside transfer from Terminal 3 to 4 at LHR using a terminal shuttle. My question is, can I leave the airport and visit London for a few hours while I'm there? I've read forums that mention (strangely enough) that Virgin Atlantic doesn't allow you to leave the airport during a layover. From what I know I don't need a tourist or transit visa to enter the UK.
If possible I would like to go to Windsor Castle and maybe have a meal around there before coming back to Terminal 4 directly. I won't be having a big carry-on bag either. Just a laptop bag. Has anyone been through this recently?
I will be arriving in London Heathrow, American Airlines terminal 3 and connecting to Dubai in British Airways terminal 5. I have 3 hours layover. A friend in London wants to go to the airport to see me. Where should I tell her to meet me? Will I have time to meet her?
My parents (USA citizens) are coming in to terminal 4 at 9:40. I know it takes a while to clear security/passport checking/ immigration, and then get bags, but how long? I need to get them and get to central London by 1pm. Feasible?
hey booked with e bookers dub to lhr to sfo.aerlingus to lhr and virgin atlantic to sfo.so basically iv 80 mins to get from terminal 1 to 3 for connecting flight.can it be done?do not have to pick bags up.oh and if i buy alcohol and cigarettes from duty free in sfo will they be taken off me in lhr on way home to dublin.thanks in advance :)
I'm planning a trip to Kiev, Ukraine from Belfast with BA. I can get a through ticket, so our luggage will be checked straight through and we will get our boarding cards for second flight in Belfast. Trouble is, there is only 100 minutes between scheduled landing at terminal 1 and scheduled departure from terminal 5. I know it meets the official transfer time on BA and Heathrow airport site of 90 mins, but still looks rather tight. The BA staff in Belfast think I should be ok and that it won't take 90 minutes in reality to make the connection. They also advise that if the delay is on their part, they will put me on the next available flight, trouble is the next BA flight to Ukraine is the next morning!
Has anyone done this journey from 1 to 5, can it be done or would I be mad to try it?
Thanks for any replies!
how can i see my mother at the airport within her 9 hours of wait before her next flight if she does not have a transit visa to come out of the airport ?

My flight is at 7:30 am friday terminal 1. If I check in online with no checked baggage. Can I go through the security on time, if I take the first tube which arrives T1 at 6:36 am?
My friend and I are taking a cruise from England. In the meantime, we both are flying to London Heathrow but from different locations and airlines. I arrive on Icelandair at 11:45am into termianl 1 on Oct 18th and my friend arrives at 12:25pm on the same day. She is flying American Airlines and flies into terminal 3. We are concerned about finding each other as we don't have phones we can use out of the US. I am trying to find out if I can walk from my arrival point in terminal 1 to terminal 3 arrival point without going through security again. I have no luggage to pick up so it would be a matter of walking from one terminal to another. It sounds to me like if I were going to catch a connecting flight I might have to go through security but since we are both just arriving and not catching another flight, is it possible to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3 without going through all the hoops? I leave on the 17th so I need to get an answer as soon as possible. Thanks, Sandra
I have a friend flying over from Germany but is changing flights at Heathrow as they are then heading to Hong Kong and are in the UK for 4/5 hours and I have arranged to meet them inside the airport and I'm just wondering if this is possible to meet somebody as they are changing flights.
How long should I allow arriving LHR T1 from Los Angeles and departing T1 for Dusseldorf, but need to clear baggage.
I will be arriving at Terminal 4 at about 15:00 on Monday. How much time do you think that the immigration and customs will take. it's important for me .
I'm arriving in London in a week and will meet my mother there who is also flying in on the same day. I arrive about an hour before her in terminal 4 on Qatar Airways and she arrives in terminal 3. Where is a good place for us to meet each other?
How busy compared with normal will the airport and train services be?
thai passport - can we access terminals without going through customs?
I'm travelling to New Castle through a connection from Heathrow airport. I would like to know if I should pass the immigration desk and collect my baggage and recheck in? or Should I go direct to catch my flight and pass through immigration in New castle airport?
Thanks in advance for your help
Can you bring liquids (eg bottle of whiskey or large perfume) greater volume then 100 ml through carry on luggage when bought in San Francisco airport and we won't get luggage till we've reached Dublin. We were connecting through Dallas from Mexico to San Fran last week and had our 1litre bottle of tequila confiscated as greater then 100 ml in security, although sealed duty free bag.

I am sending my 18 year old and 13 year old daughters to Ireland through Heathrow. As of now, they are flying to Calgary, lhr, to Dublin. They need to catch a British Airways flight in another terminal after their air Canada flight lands (it's a cheap miles thing). I gave them 2.5 hours to navigate customs, terminals etc.
So, I have the opportunity to switch them to a direct flight from Los Angeles to London for a nominal fee. They would land at 12:15 in the United terminal and have to get to British Airways for a 1:30 flight. Is this possible? would we be cutting it too close?
I have 7 hour layover at Heathrow between Los Angeles and Johannesburg. I'd like to make arrangements to meet a friend of mine who lives in the UK. I suggested we meet at the AA Admirals Club (i bought 30 day pass) before connecting to my flight out of Terminal 5. I have only hand luggage. Can I meet my friend and still not worry about connections? I arrive at noon at Terminal 3 and leave at 7 from Terminal 5.
I travelled from Heathrow to Cork last week At the isometrics and passport checkpoint near the gate, I was told I couldn't go through to catch my flight because I didn't have a biometrics sticker, and, half an hour before the flight left, was sent back out through the transit and flight connection area, passport control and back through security in order to get a sticker. I just about made my flight. I'm flying to Ireland again next month and I really don't want to repeat this experience, but I'm still at a loss as to where to get this sticker from next time. I'm a EU citizen who lives in the UK.
My husband is traveling on a British Passport and I am traveling on an Australian one .... I have been told that we can both go through the British section of customs as we are traveling together ... is this correct.
I will be arriving on SAS from CPH at 1:05 pm at Terminal 3. Departing flight is Air New Zealand from Terminal 1 at 4:15. Will this work? Will I have to go through immigration? Can my bag be check through to LAX from CPH or do I have to claim it at LHR and recheck it at Terminal 1?
Is there free coffe on the BA flight tomorrow at 7:20am
Hello, I am wanting to take advantage of the shops in terminal 3, in particular MAC (after security), before moving to terminal 5. Can I do this? I also want to use No.1 lounge in terminal 3 prior to transfering to terminal 5 - is this possible?
I am arriving into Terminal 3 at Heathrow on an international flight. I would like to clear customs, pick up my bag, then go to the United Club Lounge prior to leaving the airport. Is this possible, or is the lounge only accessible within the terminals?
We are arriving in Terminal 3 from the US at 10:45 p.m. I notice the last tube out is at 11:48 p.m. Will we be able to make this train, or will we have to spend the big bucks on a taxi?
I have an 8 hour layover between two long haul flights (11am-7pm). I am arriving in/leaving from T5. I would really like to take a quick shower during this stop over. l know that there are hotels landside and airside (T3) as well as lounge options.
My questions is: what is the easiest option? Will I even be allowed to go from T5 to T3 airside (and what would that entail-- ie trips through security, time, etc). Alternatively, how much of a hassle would it be to go landside? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I am an American flying from Amsterdam Schiphol to Heathrow on a British Airways flight, then going from Heathrow to Boston on a KLM flight, therefore I do have to change terminals. I do not plan to check any baggage. Will I still have to go through immigration? The website did not specify. Thanks!
My first flight from CPH- LDN on SAS is scheduled to arrive at LHR Terminal 3 at 350pm and my second flight on Singapore airlines LDN- SIN is scheduled to depart at 835pm at Terminal 3.
Will there be sufficient time for me to clear immigration and baggage from my first flight and re-check in at 635pm for my second flight? As I've heard stories that immigration at LHR takes rather long.
Your help is greater appreciated!
