      Transportation option to /from Jotunheimen

      Norway Jun 6, 2015 at 2:24 PM

Can anyone tell me if there is bus service from Geiranger to Lom (Jotunheimen), I can not seem to find such. Also is there bus/shuttle service to lodgings on west side of Jotunheimen from Lom , specifically the Boverdalen Vandrerhjeim hostel. Is there access into Park from Hostel area if one does not have car. Also planning to continue via bus to Sogndal- i see that this is possible? I know i can access Lom via bus from Oppdal , but in planning my itinerary getting to from Geiranger is ideal.

Flåm train - best time of a day to take it

      Norway Jun 23, 2015 at 6:12 AM

We are trying to book the Flåm train ride (beginning of September) but would appreciate some specific help:
Q1: We will drive around touring the Fjord district, including have the view from top of the Geirangerfjord and the Sognefjord. Is the Flåm train ride still necessary (i.e., will we see something unique that we cannot see otherwise)?

Q2: The reviews we read were, the train ride would be fantastic (IF the answer to Q1 above is yes) ONLY IF a) not many tourists overcrowded the train; and b) not raining.
Is there 'micro climate' thing at the train ride area, which means, will it be more likely to rain in the morning or afternoon (understanding that this may not be possible to predict)? Basically the question is what would be the best time to ride the train avoiding tourist crowds and avoid rain?

      Thanks in advance!

      Norway Jun 11, 2015 at 12:15 PM

I will be touring the area between Geiranger and Flam in the third week of August. My question is what is the most scenic route and where are the best places to stay? Also, do I need to have reservations at hotels in advance or will there be plenty of availability of hotels during that time frame? I prefer not making reservations in advance so I can just tour and drive and stop when I get ready. I have a rental car. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rent an automatic car from Alesund; going through Oslo airport custom

      Norway Jun 22, 2015 at 6:35 AM

We planned to rent an automatic car from Alesund and drive all the way via fjord and back to Bergen (and makes numerous stops on the way). However, a few rental companies we searched, renting an automatic car will NOT be possible (we do not know how to drive a standard shift car).

Anyone had the experience renting an automatic car from Alesund (airport or in town), how was it arranged?

Unfortunately, we have already bought the ticket from USA to Alesund (via Oslo). When arrive Oslo, do we take out the luggage, go through the customer, then put the luggage back to the flight to Alesund, OR go through the custom at the Alesund? If the latter is possible, we may consider give up the last leg (if changing tickets is too costly)?

Any quick advice would be highly appreciated!

We are two people going over to Haugesund for five days (Thurs to Tues) and are looking for some ideas/suggestions for hiking/walking in the area. We have booked accommodation in the city but are willing to stay on route if we can figure out a multiple day hike. Would anyone be able to recommend any hikes (1-3 days) and be able to tell us if transport to hiking/walking areas is accessible?

I have just read the costs of basic items in Oslo and was wondering if they are comparable with Haugesund. Having never travelled in Norway I was keen to visit but a little daunted by the costs suggested for Oslo. I'm looking for cheapish hotel and ideas for food prices, clearly an idea of how much a beer is likely to cost would be appreciated. The last question I had was about transport, can anyone advise me how easy it is to make the journey from the airport to either Haugesund itslef or alternatively to Bergen.

If we should stay a couple of days around Haugesund can you recommend any small hotels in a reasonably quiet location. Also best way to travel to Bergen.Intend to do the Nutshell tour, Does this need booking at this time of year end july /Beg.August. I'm going to Haugesund for 2 nights in January.

      1) Can you tell me what are the interesting things to do or visit there? I only have 2 days to go around, and don't have a car. So, I'm just thinking about the city center area (anywhere within walking distance or short bus ride).

      2) I heard about the Viking Village, how do I get there and is it worth a visit?

      Thanks for your help..

      Hi All
We are flying into Haugesund in late August for 2 nights and are interested in seeing Glaciers, pulpit or Preekstoel and Kayaking. We are really keen on spending a day up a fjord kayaking but cant seem to find anyone hiring kayaks out. We are not particularly fussed if we don't stay in Haugesund so if you can suggest a good campsite or B&B that is central to our interests that would be great. Local area maps anyting would be good.
Take care of yourselves and thanks for your responses in advance.

We're flying to Haugesund in May and want to travel around Hardangerfjord by ferry but are struggling with the Norwegian ferry websites. Can you advise us on where we should visit and where we should stay. Maybe one or two stops and/or a cruise up the fjord.

We are looking at flying out of Haugesund on the Ryan Air Flight back to London. Is this a reliable flight that leaves daily like it says, or is there a reputation of canceling flights if they are not full?
