Hi I am in Tallin on a cruise ship on 7th May 2013,the Old Town sounds very intriguing for a walk around as does Kadriorg and Pirita, I have also read somewhere that there is a prison which was closed on 2003 which can be visited,is this so and can all these sights be fitted into the hours of 9am till 4pm? thanks in advance.

We will arrive in cruise in Sep..
Have 2 questions please:
Does this park open in Monday?
If so, is there a transportation from old town to the park and from the park back to the habor?

Hi, coming to Tallinn from a cruise ship for a few hours. Just like to know how to get around from the cruise ship to the city/town and main things to see, bars, restaurants etc.

Might be too late to ask, since there is not so many people at Tallinn forum usually, but I´ll try.. Witch is the easiest way to get to Pirita closter? Is there bus going, and is it only one bus or do we need to change?

Planning my first visit by end of april, what about the weather at that time?

we will be visiting both cities this August. it seems that there is now train service between the cities, but the duration of ride is 6 1/2 hours, almost the same as riding the bus (7 hrs)?? if this is true, which is the better means of travel?

also, if anyone has any special thoughts/ideas about either destination, please share!

I would like to take ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki in mid May,2013. I looked in on line booking, found 2 booking sites in English looks like from UK, they only showed Viking line and Tallink/Silja and Lida line, not showing Eckero line which suppose to be cheaper. I only intend to go on foot one way, there are other booking site but either in Finn or Estonian (which I could not understand) not in English but they show the price of the Eckero line. Could some friendly Estonian or Finn to translate "foot passenger" and one way? or any advice?

Someone told Tallinn look like a Fairytale Town, is it true? With castles and so on.

I am looking for pictures of the former KGB Headquarters in Tallin that I can print as photos. When I was there earlier this year the property was under renovation and I couldn't get a proper photo of this building. I would appreciate help. Kathryn

Hi, we are a family of five and we are visiting Paldiski for a few hours on out trip from Tallinn to Padise next week, with a car. What do you recommend we should see there? The shores look beautiful, where is the best place to enjoy the see and the cliffs? What about the old Soviet buildings? Are any of those open to public? Is there a museum and when is it open? What buildings should we see even if we can only see them from the outside? Is there something else you would recommend we see or do there? I'm afraid we won't have time to visit the islands, since we have to continue our journey quite soon, but any tips are welcome! Thank you very much in advance!

We will be in Tallinn in late August, for only one day on a cruise. We have a choice of three tours, none of which is similar to the other. Here are the choices: 1. Highlights: Old Town, Nun's Gate, Gothic Town Hall, Apothecary, Kadriorg Park, Paroque Palace, Song Festival Ground, St. Brigit's Convent. 2. Gothic Treasures: Old Town, Upper Town (Keik in de Kok Cannon Tower), Danish King's Garden, Town Hall Square, Great Guild, Holy Ghost Church, Apothecary. 3. Tallinn & Old Town: Old Town, Russian Orthodox Church, Castle/Parliament, Long & Short Leg Streets, Apothecary, Great Guild House, Blackhead's Brotherhood House, Dominican Convent, St. Catherine's arts & crafts center. Which is the best choice. All three tours are given at the same time, so we can't do more than one. Thanks for your opinions. Carl

We are going to Tallinn this weekend and maybe trying to find some christmas presents while we are there. Someone told we should visit "the new shopping centre". We have only visited Viru-keskus and very quickly in it also. I tried to google, and maybe the new one is Solaris? But I just can´t find their address! I even found their page, but didn´t find any address at their own pages.. Is it at the centre? We are not so much "shopping-kind of people", so I´m not sure if we would like to go far. Even if I know the shops are cheaper far from centre. We rather like handigrafts (I know there is lots of knitwear, but those I can have from my mother in law) like silver jewellery or handmade chrismast decorations. But maybe we will find some of those at christmas market opening at saturday. But for some teenagers and other relatives we might need to visit some shoppinfg centre.

Hello! I will be spending 5 days in Tallinn during New Year's Eve. I was wondering if you guys could give me any tips on how to party and hang out in Tallinn. I already found a lot of information about clubs and bars in Tallinn but I was wondering if there is an alternative scene with good music (no house or hip hop!!) and cool people. I will be in Tallinn with two more friends and since we are all students, we always try not to spend too much money, so the cheaper the better! Our hostel will be in the Old Town so it will be easy to go places, but since there are so many things, it is hard to pick the right things. So if you have any suggestions, please help me!! :) Oh and also, where will everyone be around New Year's Eve? Is there a big square where everyone will go? Will there be fireworks? Thank you!

I will be visiting Tallin on a cruise and was wondering if it is possible to walk from the port to the top of the old town pushing a wheelchair. I cannot get on the buses to take an organisd tour. I do not want to miss out on the sites. Irene

Many guidebooks tell about "famous cheese balls" served in Tallinn. What are they? Are they made only from cheese? How about garlic bread served at pubs? Is it rye bread as in Vilnus? We ordered it there, but I couldn´t eat it because of rye. we do have garlic bread in Finland too, but it doesn´t usually have rye.

Is there any bookshops selling English books in Tallinn? I search for new guidebooks, and my husband collects some comics (some really strange ones, if you ask me ;) ). I have bought many English guidebooks outside Finland. Those are usually much cheaper than Finnish ones. Maybe because they sell those more.

1. I asked before but no one answered, so I´ll try again: Is the open air museum at rocca al mare open at end of November? And if it is, is the buildings open also? (In Riga open air museum was open in winter, but you could only see the buildings outside) Then two "funny" questions: 2.Is melatonin sold without precprition? It was some years ago by the name "Sleep aid", but last time my sister brought it to me it was changed, and didn´t have melatonin at all. We do have it at pharmacy in Finland now also, but it´s VERY expensive 3. Now you will laugh ;) Is T.G.I.Fridays closed? For some reason we really like their foods, and since we don´t have it in Finland, we thought we could visit it at Tallinn. But now I don´t find it. I saw it once when we were at work trip at Tallinn, but we didn´t have time to visit. It was maybe 3 or 4 years ago.

I don´t find any info about when the christmas market is open this year. I did find info that it opened allready at 19th November last year, but I don´t find this years timetable. Some Finnish blog said there would be two markets. Is that so? And if it is, is they both open as early. I should book a hotel for our "christmas-market-trip", and that´s why I´m asking. Hotel is quite booked allready. (We need to stay at Viru, we have a giftcard to it).

Hi, I'll be visiting Tallinn in two weeks' time and would appreciate some advice about getting a taxi from the airport to the Swissotel in town. We'll use the bus if we don't have to wait too long, however if we resort to a taxi I have a couple of questions: - are there taxi companies I should use that are better/cheaper? - any I should absolutely avoid? - do most drivers speak english, or is it better to speak to them in Russian? Will be in Helsinki in June and have been researching a day trip to Tallin - there is plenty of information on the ferries and on the attractions of Tallin itself, but I am having trouble finding any day round trip guided tour originating in Helsinki. Now two things: is it best to organise such a service from Helsinki, or are there guided tours available in Tallin on arrival? Maybe there are guides in Tallin who would do an escorted tour for the day? (We are happy to leave early from Helsinki to make a day of it.) Or is a visit to Tallin something that can be done effectively from a guide book? We are a couple of 60-somethings willing to walk or ride!

We are going from Tallinn to Saint Petesburg at the end of June and we are thinking in two alternatives : 1) To take a night bus or train from Tallinn to Saint Petersburg 2) To take an early ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki , find a place to leave the lugage and spend the day visiting Helsinki .Take a ferry at night from Helsinki to Saint and to arrive early in the morning by sea (Princess Maria of St Peters line ) Thank you for your advice Gracias !!!!

Hello, First of all, I'm new in this forum, so I apologize if my profile is a bit "empty" at the moment... But let's talk about the purpose of my question! :) I'll spend 4 days in Tallinn at the very end of March, arriving from Helsinki by boat, and leaving by plane (to Riga)... First question is: which hotel should I stay in? I'm hesitating for the moment between 2, St Olav and Baltic Imperial...but I'm open to any other suggestions... To say a bit more about me, I'm traveling single, and, as you can see, I like well-situated and comfortable hotels...my biggest wish is to have a very comfy room, with a good bathroom (OK...will I ask too much if I ask for a bath instead of a shower??? ;) )... And if the hotel could have some relaxing stuffs like sauna/jauzzi/... , could be almost heaven! lol!! (even if I'll may be try to go to a public sauna...so if someone knows about one? ) That will lead to my other question: Even if I have travel guides, etc...I would like to not miss something...so if you have recommandations about "to do", "to eat" and "to drink" things...you'll be very welcome! :) (I'm enjoying a lot walking and discovering a new city...)
