Water Puppet Theatre

by Tsetsgee Online Now Jul 27, 2012 at 2:41 PM

So, I am finding mixed reviews about the Water Puppet Theatre. We are thinking we will most probably do it, but is there only the one theatre or is there more than that?

Water Puppet theatre originated in the Red River Delta and there is more than one venue in Hanoi, but the main one is Thang Long Puppet Company performing at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Saigon has the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre. The puppets are made from wood then lacquered, and are placed on rods in 1metre deep pools and are controlled by guys hidden from view behind a screen. It is well worth going to so you should take the opportunity while you are there. ENJOY THE SHOW

The theatre is in the the n/w corner of Hoan Kiem lake. Around 16h00/17h00 you'll see all the tour buses stopping in front. Personally I enjoyed the puppet show but was driven mad by the strident singing.

Water Puppet Show is very interesting. It's one of Viet Nam's art traditional and it helps you partly know about Viet Nam history and actually know about daily activities of Viet Nam peoples. Exactly speaking, in Viet Nam , there are 3 Water Puppet Theatre, 2 in Ha Noi and 1 in Ho Chi Minh city. I strongly advise you that if you go to Viet Nam, you should watch this show.

There ar 4 shows a day everyday. ATTENTION : the theater is very small and extremely popular, so it is indispensable that you go there when you arrive in Hanoi (it is alongside the north side of Haon Kiem Lake ;tall tower with inscription "Water Puppet Theater")to make a reservation

If you stay next to the theater then just go in the morning and buy a ticket for the evening and you should be fine. If i remember right then the tickets cost around 3-4 dollars for a show that lasts around 45 minutes.

Go see it, it's unique in the world and magic. Most of the times, you will not get a ticket the day you go for booking, but the next day because it is small and popular full of tourist groups. Do not take seats on the front, middle is better. As of the music, it is Asian one and our ears are not used to it ; it is one of the most celebrated groups of traditional Vietnamese music in Vietnam

The counter is open all day long so just go there as soon as you arrive and buy a ticket for the same evening. Should not really be a problem i think.
