I'm going to do the Thailand to Vietnam overland over the space of three weeks, ending in Hanoi. Any good routes, tips, things to look out for, advice etc about?
You can find some useful tips on the Bangkok - Siem Reap (Cambodia) part in "Tales of Asia" (talesofasia.com/cambodia-ove.... From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh there are express boats through the Tonle Sap Lake. From Phnom Penh there are buses (ask in any Guesthouse) to Saigon. From Saigon to Hanoi there are hop-on hop-off buses run by the main guesthouses for about 20 USD. You can stop in the way and visit a few tourist attractions on the way... In Hanoi don't miss a 2 days trip to Halong Bay. Have a nice trip! Joaquin

I agree with Joaquin, thats exactly what I would do. However, if you really want to spend more time in lass places you can go through Laos. You can take the Train from BKK to Nong Khai and cross into Vientiane from there, or travel from bangkok to Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong to over into Laos to Houixay to Pak Beng to Louang Prabang, then either to Vietnam or to Vang Vieng and Vientiane and then to Vietnam. I havent crossed from Laos to Vietnam, so I don't know the procedures, but you can cross at Lao Bao to Hue (much further south from Vientiane) and I think there is a nother crossing further north, but I don't know the name. Or you can go experience southern Laos instead from Thailand, but I've never been to that area of the country so I have no advice there...
