I am looking for a guide for Hampi and when I go online to find a local travel agency (and that goes for most cities) all I get is the large agencies that do mostly package tours. I am looking for a day tours. How do you find local travel agencies (not the state ones) -- I've tried googeling any suggestions? i want a guide for at least the first day. thanks for your comments traveling with aloha the coconut wireless
I took the state run (Karnataka State Tourism) conducted tour starting early morning and starting from the hotel. They had a guide in the bus who did his job fairly well.

I'm assuming you are staying in a hotel in Hospet. Just ask at reception to arrange a local guide. I'm sure they will oblige, or you can make your way to Hampi, and any of the tuk tuk drivers are well versed in the history of the place. Good luck.

well the trouble with the hotel is that they keep changing their prices about the tour -- i would rather deal drectly with the guide , there fore he gets a better deal and so do I. thanks Mele kalikimaka Haouli Makahiki Hou to all that have taken the time to respond traveling with aloha the coconut wireless

Hi Coconut Wireless We're visiting Goa for 2 weeks soon and would love to visit Hampi by train. The train schedule is such that we can stay for either 1 day or 3 days at Hampi. It seems a long way to go for only 1 day, but is there enough to warrant 3 days stay? (bearing in mind that the train journeys take about 9 hours, so we would give up almost 5 days in Goa) your views will be most welcome!

Hampi is well worth it unless all you want to do is lay on a beach you can also take a trip to Badami Caves (one whole day) copy and paste images.google.com/imgres?img... badami1.jpg&imgrefurl=cultureholidays.com/Temples/... if this doesn't work google Badami Caves and go to google images. i didn't put much about Hampi on my travel pages as there is so much already in VT traveling with aloha the coconut wireless

Have you been to badami? Did you stay there? How did you get there from Hampi/Hospet? Was it a worthwhile trip? All info appreciated. Regards Scott18
