On behalf of a friend, I'm looking for more reasonably priced real estate in & around Chicago. I'd like to find out a few things about Hammond: 1. Does it have many/any paved roads yet? 2. Has that technology known as "traffic lights" hit the streets of Hammond yet? 3. Is it true that 65% of the homes in Hammond still have outhouses? Curious on all fronts, Robert
I think they tried traffic lights a long time ago, and you can still see some of the remains rusting along the sides of the road. The Romans did away with outhouses for the most part when they designed the sanitation system, but there are still a few. I think most people who have them keep them next to the animals. The Romans also built the roads, some of which have been preserved in their original condition. The road to Gary is especially attractive to the visitor by night. Its right under the cooling towers of the nuclear reactor, Hammonobyl. Hope that helps!

Hmm, I always thought the refinery looked a lot like Oz at night. Maybe you have to squint! Or be under the influence ;-) As for the rest of it, why not visit and see for yourself? ;-)

I was just informed that this was all an inside joke. Forget what I said and continue having fun. :)
