    • Northside - Southside

      Brisbane May 6, 2013 at 8:53 PM

I have just moved to Brisbane and am staying in Nundah temporarily. I have just had an interview for a job in Carindale, I was not intending to look for work anywhere other than the CBD or Northside as my sister lives North and I am more familiar with this side of the river. But jobs proved hard to find and I had to cast the net a bit further! So, I am wondering what the best thing would be to do if I did get this job - Where to live and transportwise what would be cheaper.

Should I live on the Southside and commute by public transport or car, OR stay North so im closer to my sister and the city for social convenience, and drive over toll bridges to get to Carindale. I had to get a train and bus today, which was fine but it took an hour! And would cost about $10 return I think, with a GO card.
Tolls, GO card charges, commute time, social life, working around the Brisbane river its all a bit of a logistical nightmare haha.
Basically I just want to be within about half an hour of work, dont mind paying a little for transport costs - I will be working in the westfield mall so I doubt I could park right at work anyway, bus would be an option or park somewhere free and walk. Don't have a car at moment but will get one once job is sorted.

Gold Coast May 9, 2013 at 4:37 AM

My friends and I are traveling to Gold Coast for the first time in June 2013. Bought tickets already! But we haven't got any idea of where to stay! Surfers paradise is always recommended when I survey online. So SP it is. Could you please please recommend where to stay in SP? A convenient hotel or an apartment which is affordable? For 4 adults? Thank you so much for any feedback.

      Brisbane 13 hours ago

      Hello all!

I am moving to London on a 2 year working visa in July and am wondering whether I should take a suitcase or a backpack over? I would be staying in hostels until I could find a share house to move into. Not sure which would be more practical?

      Thanks

    • Need help planning 7-9 days in the Whitsundays, Port Douglas, and Cairns

Whitsunday Islands May 9, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Hi! I have been given the challenge to plan our visit to Australia and will be traveling soon (late May, early June), and finding it difficult to find a travel agent who is knowledgeable enough to help. We are a couple coming from the US (Boston area) and traveling with 2 adult children (21 & 23). We all love beaches and adventure. We are a little short on time and plan to take flights in the interest of time where necessary. Most of our party will be originating from Sydney having spent several days there. Having trouble figuring out the best way to see a lot and yet have a somewhat relaxing enjoyable vacation. Considering renting a Catamaran and learning to sail to see the islands, however, not opposed to other alternatives including a resort with something for everyone. Really want to see Hamilton Island and Whitehaven Beach, and open to other suggestions (read something about Fraser Island and renting 4x4's?). Any advice will be greatly appreciated! This is most likely a once in a lifetime trip for us.

Planning on going there for 5 days in early to mid july for my honeymoon and the fiance wants something warm and beachey. Thanks for the help

is there a good boat trip to whitehaven island

by maggiefoss Online Now Jan 14, 2011 at 7:45 PM

Hi- We are going to be on Hamilton island from march 5- march 9. I really want to go to whitehaven beach , but all the tour companies just seen to go for 4 hours and head back. They leave only about 2 hrs on the island. Does anybody have a good suggestion for going there? Or is 4 hours plenty of time??? Does anybody have a tour operator that they recommend? Do you think it will be sunny, or will it be rainy every day. I was thinking since it was their fall it would be good weather, so I hope it is not too rainy. Is there anything else we need to see on hamilton island. thanks for your help

I love to cook and booked an apartment with kitchen on Hamilton Island for a week. There is no way of purchasing fresh seafood on the island. The restaurants are over priced, which I could handle if anyone knew how to cook. This place has great weather but I feel like I am trapped in a cross between the Truman show and The Wickerman (original version). Is there anyone out there that has been thru and survived this place. Here till Wednesday 3rd Help !

    • Hamilton Island - what is it REALLY like working on the island??

by daisy166 Online Now Jan 11, 2010 at 5:57 PM

Hi there I am a 30-year old, NZ photographer and I am very interested in working on Hamilton Island for 6 months July - Dec 2010! I imagine Hamilton Island is a really fun, enjoyable, social place to work - is this correct? My questions include: Does Hamilton Island arrange the accommodation (if I get a job through them)? Is it shared accommodation or bunk beds etc? Is it expensive to live there? Does it get boring after a week? What is there to do aside from swim, walk, shop, golf, eat/drink? What is the main age group of the employees? Would you recommend working there? Is it difficult to find full-time employment? (I am a photographer but can also do administration roles) Any advice would be much appreciated! Please be honest!! Thank you Daisy

We are due to leave for Austrlia in 1.5 weeks time and are due to be on Hamilton Island around mid August. Advised by travel agent that it was a great place to visit. Have read some recent reviews - not good! places closed/lots of construction/unmotivated staff... We have 2 young children- should we change our plans? Anyone visited recently and enjoyed it? Thankyou, Julie.

      Meals and activities for teens

Hi, we are considering Hamilton Island for a family holiday. We are 2 familes with with 6 teenagers between us ranging from 13 to 19 and will stay at The Villas. What are the prices of food for lunch/snacks from the takeway shops etc. As far as things for the teenagers to do at night are there places that they can hang out (4 of them are under 18), also things for the 17,18, and 19yo to do at night instead of hanging with us and cramping our style :-) Loads of people have been telling me it's too expensive to go to Hamilton Island, so I'm hoping I can get some tips which will make it not too outragious. Any other prices for activities would be appreciated. I was thinking as there are 10 of us, would we be better off financially organising our own boat charter than taking an organised cruise. Any advice welcome cheers Linda
