where to wait

by wise23girl Online Now Jul 17, 2012 at 5:12 AM

We leave QM2 in Hamburg and have some hours to wait for our train to Copenhagen. We will have two suitcases and 2 backpacks. Is there a lounge or waiting room at Hamburg central station. We had a quick look around the other day but could not see anywhere except a cafe at the entrance.

Well that must have been a very quick look around, as Hamburg Hauptbahnhof / Central Station is quite big. :-) There are lockers at both piers of the station - north and south (exact change required!) and an additional "DB Gepäck Center" where you can get change from the clerk working there.

If you are travelling first class on the train, there is a DB lounge located in the station.

I wouldn't recommend to stay at these lounges at the station. Just outside the main station (east entrance) you'll find some restaurants. When I was in Hamburg the last time I was at restaurant 'Schifferboerse" in Kirchenallee (just a few steps from the station). It's nicely decorated and the food is good.

Pardon me for missreading your post. I thought you wanted to get rid of your luggage for a couple of hours and do some seightseeing in Hamburg - which is what I would suggest. Why not leave the luggage at Hauptbahnhof, walk down Mönckebergstraße towards the townhall, Colonnaden, and Lake Alster? There are plenty of cafés and restaurants.
