Hi Have been backpacking in Europe and now heading to London to meet my sister who is coming from Australia on holiday. Can anyone advise of cheap and ecomonical way to get from Hamburg to London on either Saturday 2nd or Sunday 3rd July. Also can anyone recommend clean and reasonable backpackers in Hamburg. Cheers Brendan
If you book now you can go by train to London for 119 E, or to Amsterdam for 39 E and contiue by Eurobus for 46 E (limited seats, you can't change the train you have booked), Ryan has planes from Bremen and Luebeck maybe 100 E, Easyjet from Hamburg. You also can try to get a shared ride (Mitfahrzentrale tel.:19440 and 19444, 2-3 day's before you want to travel) to Amsterdam ~ 30 E ? and continue by bus (somtimes share ride also to London possible).

If you are happy to put up with a very long journey then travelling by coach may be cheapest. Fare is 97 euro, jjourney is 12+ hours overnight. Book online at: http://www.touring.de/ http://www.skyscanner.net/ gives you all carriers and (usually) cheapest fares for your route and dates. You need to check fares and (imo) book on the airline's own website. You'v left it very late for cheapest fares, I'm afraid. Ryanair will get you from Hamburg Lubeck to London Stansted for 95 euro on 2nd (no flight shown on 3rd on the Ryanair site) but it will cost you more if you have a bag to put in the hold...and you'll have to pay more still if you want the 20kg allowance (as opposed to the 15kg). If you want to fly, you may find Easyjet from Hamburg International to Gatwick works out cheaper (luggage allowance 20kg, shorter transport). 170 euro on 2nd (the 3rd is ridiculously expensive for some peculiar reason). Travelling by train in this case is unlikely to be a cheap option. Like budget carriers, the under-Channel Eurostar train fares rise the nearer you get to departure. The German railway website offers an advance online fare of 109 euro Hamburg>Paris for 2nd and 3rd, but you would have to get across Paris and buy tour Eurostar tickets separately. Cheapest fare on those dates is now 166.50GBP. bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/... www.eurostar.com Looks as if Ryanair or the coach (especially if you have hold baggage) are the best options...
