We are a family of 4 adults and 4 children ages 17, 14, 4, 2 and we will be traveling from Vienna to Hallstatt next July and would like to know the cheapest train ticket to travel on. Would purchasing two Einfach-Raus Ticket or the SparSchiene ticket be what I'm looking for also would either of these tickets qualify for the most direct route (no changes at stops)?

I personally find it easier to do the cities by public transport, but the areas in the mountains themselves are easier... more
