During May/June, is it best to visit morning or afternoon ,to have sunlight on the village?
If I recall correctly, Hallstadt is on the west side of the lake, so morning light is what you are after.

Hope I'm not too late to reply! Just got back from Austria and we visited Hallstatt on the train and got there about 930am and it was the perfect time for light on the town. By 3pm, the sun will be behind the mountains so the village will get darker by then. It was wonderful and just as lovely as the photos on the 'net pictured it to be! Have fun!
