      20-24 Demographic

      Toronto 2 hours ago

Anyone know why there are so many more women in the 20-24 demographic than men? I was trying to corroborate a figure of the total student population in the city, and along the way, I ran into the 2011 demographic report. There were something like 15,000 more women than men in the 20-24 age group. Do Canadian women just like big cities more?

      Butchart Gardens in a Day

Vancouver Island May 11, 2013 at 6:32 PM

We are planning a RV trip to BC this summer and want to go to Butchart Gardens. We will be taking a ferry from Anacortes, WA and want to make sure we will have enough time to see the gardens with travel time included. We have to small dogs that would be staying behind for the day or perhaps put into a kennel if we need more time. Would it be more economical and better to take our car or take a bus/cab or rent a car on the island? Can we do it in a day? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Vancouver Island May 7, 2013 at 8:20 AM

Hi, my husband, our 4 year old daughter and myself are thinking about a trip to west Canada (from Ireland). We teach so have July and most of August off work. Although we have loads of time, we would be doing it on a shoe string!! Would like to know what people think; should we a) just focus on Vancouver and Vancouver Island (b) focus on the Rockies © try to do both - although I don't think we could afford it all at once!
We really want to get the 'real Canada' outdoorsy feel and would be staying in hostels (hopefully there are child-friendly ones about!!) any advice/opinions on what we should/could do?

Sault Sainte Marie Apr 25, 2013 at 3:17 PM

Hi, I will be driving from Madison Wisconsin to Niagara Falls in June and will be crossing the border at Sault Ste Marie. I would really appreciate some advice on the following: For an overnight stay which would you recommend, the usa or ontario side of the border? What route would you recommend for the onward journey? Is there a route that includes a car ferry crossing? 13 years ago I did a long drive around the great lakes and I remember taking a car ferry but cannot remember where from or where it arrived (across part of lake huron maybe?) I do remember really enjoying that ferry trip though and would love to find it again to enjoy with my children. I seem to recall spending a few hours on a lovely beach after the ferry crossing. Any clues and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I have searched through several of the threads for suggestions for this, and I have found some. In July, four of my friends and I are visiting Toronto. We are wondering if it is worth it to use the TTC pass? Or would it be better for us to go by Taxi? We will be staying near the airport, but we will definitely be checking out the city. We will be there for four nights, and five days.

One day in Halifax with kids

by worldtrekker Online Now Apr 17, 2012 at 5:04 PM

My chiropractor and his family are going on the Disney to Canada cruise (5 days from NY) in July. Since I spent over a month in Nova Scotia in the fall of 2010, he asked me for advice on where he could go in Halifax, when they are in port. He wasn't sure how many hours they have. Has anyone done this cruise? He has 5 children ranging in age from 10-18. I only spent 1 day in Halifax, as I spent the majority of my trip in Cape Breton. I suggested the Citadel as a good option that the parents, as well as the kids would enjoy. He mentioned they may also do some kayaking. Does anyone have other suggestions? Thanks!

by dmmitch12 Online Now Mar 10, 2010 at 5:06 PM

My wife and I (seniors) have been to nearly 70 countries but have never been to the Maritime Provinces!! We plan to take a two-week group tour there this fall with Grand Circle Travel and, of course, Halifax is on the itinerary. I would have thought that late September would be ideal but, unfortunately, GCT has only two departure dates that do not include either a pre- or post-trip to Boston/Cape Cod, which we have already done several times before (I went to college in Boston). Those dates are Sept 8 and Oct 6. I know from past trips to Vermont and Boston that leaf peeping is not a guaranteed success but, statistically at least, which of those two dates do you think would be better. Or perhaps there are other considerations that supercede leaf peeping. Your responses would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Dan & Ginny Mitchell Cedar Rapids, Iowa
