Buses between Schenzen and Guilin stop in Guangzhou to pick up passangers. The advantage of taking the bus is that it stops in Yangshuo on the way to Guilin so there is actually no need to go to Guilin at all if you don't want to. The 19.30 sleeper bus from Schenzen to Guilin via Guangzhou passes through Guangzhou at about 22.00-22.30pm and arrives in Yangshuo at about 5.30am. Taking the bus will save you time if it's Yangshuo you ultimately want to get to although you could realistically get the train to Guilin and grab a bus to Yangshuo straight away. One of Guilin's main bus stations is straight across from the rail station. Plus Guilin isn't the worst place to get stuck for a night :) Enjoy Brian

The K37 is OK. I travelled that way last year. The soft sleeper is four berths and you may have to share. It amy be possible to book the whole compartment for youselves - luggage is stored inside and the door locks from the inside. Hot water for drinks is supplied and the dining car is usualy OK - can be a bit hit or miss

I think I would agree with brucea123. Go to Guilin and take the river cruise to Yangshou.

Hi I disagree with the others..if money is not a problem catch the plane to guilin and organise a taxi pickup and head straight to Ynagshuo..doesn't cost much and you can take various river cruises from Yangshuo...

She did ask for cost saving tips so train/bus is the cheapest option :)

You are right Brian...blame it on the time..midnight :) BTW I see you are back from your travels so looking forward to seeing some photos etc..and I see that Burma and Yanghuo did meet your expectations...SOOOOO you would agree with me about Yangshuo ;)

Taking in all advices I have received so far, we came up with the new plan - we will meet at Yangshou instead =). As his last stop is at Zhongshan, my husband will take bus from Zhongshan to Yangshou. For me, I will take flight to Guilin, then take bus (or train would be a better idea?) from Guilin to Yangshou to meet him. Do you think this is feasible? As I am 1.5m tall with small frame, I won't be able to reach the top rack. Where could I put the luggage? Would you please advise (1) how can my husband and I meet at Yangshou? Would it be a common bus terminal for both of us coming from different direction? (2) Is there a prominent meeting place for us? Once again, thank you for all the advices =)

Hi, Luggage - don't worry, there will be someone to help you. The Chinese people are very friendly and there are also porters. Bus station - there is a main bus station in Yangshuo. However if your arrival times are not close it may be better to meet at your hotel or accommodation. Taxis are cheap and metered so there is no bargaining involved (there will be a surcharge for each piece of luggage) but still cheap.

I was in Yanghsuo in 2007. the bus terminal is just off the main street that comes into the town. If they drop you off on the main street head for west Street, a popular travellers and slightly commercial street. The bus station is not far from there, behind the public toilets (and that's another thing to experience !!!)
