Airport Transportation

by Patricia Online Now Feb 23, 2005 at 7:10 PM

We will be flying into the Guadalajara airport 4/1 ans was wondering what transportation there is from the airport to town? I have also read that you don't need to rent a car as you can get around by bus or taxi. Would you advise renting a car for the Guad/Lake Chapala area? Thanks for your help. Patricia

The GDL airport is not particularly close to the city, it's approx. 17 km. from town. I've been through the airport but have always had someone to meet me there (and take me back), so I can't offer any personal experiences that may help you. Other GDL familiar contributors will likely offer some advise. If you're flying into GDL and will be immediately heading to the Lake Chapala area, I recommend that you visit www.chapala.com for advise on transportation from/to the airport. chapala.com has a good webboard frequented by foreigners who are living there, and they seem to me to be a very helpful group. Best of luck!

Patricia, You can get a cab to the city for only about 15 dollars. They are just outside of international arrivals. Getting around the city by taxi or bus is very practical and cheap. if you decide to get a rental car, go to an in-city location as oppossed to the airport. In-city rentals are about 30% cheaper. Here is a list of rental car companies. tapatios.com/guadalajara/ren... Taxis: tapatios.com/guadalajara/tax... Bus routes : jalisco.gob.mx/PortalCeit.ns...
