What is the highest point on the way to the summit that can be reached by a car? How far (distance and walking time) is this point from the summit?
I remember driving past Mount Olympus many moons ago and could not see the top for clouds on a beautiful, clear, sunny day. On various websites I find that it is possible to drive as far as Prionia: trekking.gr/en/guided-holida... http://www.mountolympus.gr Both these have useful trekking and refuge information.

the highest point possible by car is at site Prionia -1100m altitude. from there it's about 6-10 hours walking to the peak. very few people can do in 1 day and return back, almost everybody overnights in refuges on the mountain. If you have 2 nights you could start walking from site 'Prionia' (you get there by car/taxi from the vilage 'Litochoro') It's a few hours walking from Prionia to 1st refuge at 2100m altitude. stay at the refuge 1 night and next day walk to next site 'Oropedio Mouson' at 2.700m and stay there 1 night. you could walk to highest peak Mytikas (2918m) on 3rd day or on 2nd -it's between the 2 refuges. you need little climbing skills for the top and can be scary. another very good option is peak Scholio at 2911m and it's just walking all the way- no climbing at all. 3rd day you walk down to the site 'Stavros' at about 1000m altitude. then you hitchhike to Litochoro if lucky or could have arranged a taxi. if you have left your car at Prionia, it's an easy walk to there from Stavros. all this can be done in the oposite way, too. refuges need booking. you can add walking the part Litochoro -Prionia which goes near a river-some times along it, some times not -generally interesting. it will be a hard 3 days of walking- I wish you are prepared for that! when you finish you can stay at seaside 'Plaka Litochorou'. in summer it is boiling hot at sea level but it's freezing at night on Olympus! enjoy!!
